Only the 13 is a surprise really.

The 13 is partially supported by City of York Council (fully on Saturdays), but as you say it's still surprising that it'll run a weekday timetable of every 45 minutes instead of the hourly Saturday timetable.

Sorry, I thought you were talking about the commercial services. Very unlikely that tenders wouldn't run - cutting people off for two weeks without a bus wouldn't be great from an LA (and the 412 is also supported).

Considering the 13 is running a weekday timetable, I'm surprised that the 6:45 from Wetherby to York and 18:35 from York to Tockwith on the 412 won't run as they're operated by a bus going on/coming off the 13.

There seems to be a 50% premium over the normal price to travel on Christmas Day.

Perhaps they are paying the drivers a bit more extra than normal (ie. double time rather than time-and-a-half perhaps?), as I imagine the other operators are, to work on Christmas Day but I don't know.

Certainly in the North East, New Years' Day is pretty dead unlike on Boxing Day when you have a certain amount of shopping trade. Perhaps it is just different culturally?

I can remember that First in Bristol used to run NYD services before Covid but not now.

I always find it rather strange how operators outside of South East England seem to run nothing at all (or a limited special timetable) on New Years Day but yet a lot of operators in South East England treat New Years Day as a normal public holiday.

I grew up on Merseyside, where it was normal for Merseytravel tendered services to run on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, often for a 50p or £1 flat fare. Some Christmas Day services for hospital visitors and staff were also run.

It was a surprise to me when I moved to West Yorkshire that these things just didn’t exist. Boxing Day services started just after the Millennium, but it does tend to mean that New Year’s Day is a bit of a waste of a day with nowhere to go and no way of getting there. I guess Merseyside had the incentive of knowing that either Liverpool or Everton would be playing so the buses would run full.

Irritatingly, we live near a railway line, but not overly near a station, so on New Year's Day we can see 4-6 trains an hour passing in each direction with no bus to get to them and on Boxing Day I can get to our 2 nearest stations easily, but there's no trains. Until Covid, New Year's Day was the only day of the year we didn't get buses (though on Boxing Day the 66 is somewhat truncated so it's run with 1 bus instead of 3 or 4 on a normal day). Keighley used to get a volunteer-run Christmas Day service

As is pretty much the norm for East, no services on Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Year's Day, and a Saturday service on the 27th, 28th, 30th and 31st December (except for Cambridge on 31st December, which gets the normal weekday service on all routes except the Busway and Citi 5/5A).

Until 2019 there were a few Boxing Day and New Years Day services but the pandemic ended these and they have never resumed.

Stagecoach Merseyside have uploaded there's for Merseyside, South Lancs and cheshire

As is about typical for Stagecoach Merseyside and their managed decline ways, this year there will be no Boxing Day service on the Wirral. In previous years (even in 2020 so we were kind of through the pandemic), the 1/X1 (or formerly X8) ran 15 minutes combined between Liverpool and Cheshire Oaks for the Boxing Day sales. Now out of nowhere, the depot is shut and nothing is operating. One of the busiest shopping days for Cheshire Oaks, and Stagecoach MCSL down tools and refuse to run buses. Is it any wonder people actively choose to use their cars, when the these so called professional management are pulling all of the buses on the main shopping day.

Absolute beggars belief and heads should be rolling over this decision.

Edit - seems they have explained the details very poorly suggesting no service in Cheshire, but they are running the 1/X1.

Hopefully they'll advertise them with a bit more than just this.

When I lived in Nottingham, NCT used to do specials in the early hours of New Year's Day, but they seem to shut up shop, now.

It's probably to fit in with Hospital shifts

It's the only trip on that service to serve the hospital, but the other two routes serve the hospital, too.

Reading Buses have announced their Christmas Timetable

24th Normal Service

25th no buses except 703 between Slough and Heathrow

26th special service based on Sunday timetable 701 & 702 will run fast between Reading Slough and London as there are no trains.

27th normal Saturday service

28th normal Sunday service

29th 30th & 31st most services will run Saturday service

1st Jan most services will run Sunday service

2nd most services will run Saturday service

3rd return to normal.
