A Mk1 Polo, with the registration worth considerably more than the car!

Generally, I dislike the personal number plate brigade. However…

A very short registration on an old wreck is, in my view, the epitome of class. If I win the lottery, I’m going to buy a two or three character registration plate, and a beige Austin Maestro (1.3 City X) to wear it.

A couple of days ago, a white Volvo P1800 coupe with a single-digit F suffix plate (1967-8). Looked tidy but not concours condition.

Many years ago I owned a 1-digit plus 3-letter plate on a rather rusty mk1 Cortina. I eventually sold the plate for four times as much as the car.

Spotted today in Long Buckby, an L reg Triumph Toledo. Still going though it looks like it could do with some TLC.

Old Land Rover (pre-1963 reg) just roared past. Bodywork looked a bit worn but sounded pretty fine.

I saw an F-reg Vauxhall Carlton (remember those?).
Well done for "saving" it. 8-) Post 12, I put a Carlton photo. A very rare Carlton model. :)

Back in the early 1990s, I toyed with buying a Senator CD (I had a 1986 Rover SD1 at the time). Sadly it didn't materialise, as my Rover's cam belt snapped 3 months after being put on (thank you Unipart quality control...), so funds were diverted to that instead.

I bought a 1988 Senator 3.0CDi in 1991 (E400GPD), it was a main dealers top range courtesy car with 75k on the clock being sold by a specialist small dealer, being a bit concerned about the high mileage I rang another main dealer who said "it's not even run in yet" It was a superb car in every way bar fuel consumption and tyre and exhaust replacement prices, the need for a total replacement exhaust being the reason I part exchanged it

My brother toyed with getting a Senator 3.0 as his first car, as there was a garage in Clayton West near our gran's that had a load of ex West Yorkshire Police examples in stock... Unfortunately the insurance would have been astronomical!

Saw a vintage American Ford pick-up yesterday, there is also a couple more modern one (00's) going around the island. Hate to think of the fuel costs!
Also saw a couple of Citroën based Romahomes.

This is an Iseki TA545 tractor which often appears around my work - I believe it qualifies as it's from the Nineties.

There was a Nissan Figaro in my local Waitrose car park this morning. I see Figaros reasonably frequently, but since there were only four colour schemes available I'm unsure how many different ones those are. Most look very tidy for their 34 years (all built in 1991).

DVLA figures for 2024 show 2431 licensed and 2240 stored off road, which is quite a decent proportion of the 20073 originally built (for Japan only).

Yesterday we received a letter from the DVLA confirming the UK numbers as of 12th May 2024. The number of vehicles with a chassis prefix / VIN:- FK10 followed by 6 numbers was 4,671. This comprises 2,431 vehicles currently recorded as licensed (taxed), and 2,240 vehicles with a Statuary Off Road Notification (SORN) in force.

Funny that you should mention the Figaro. I've seen one once in the flesh, as it were and there was one featured on Bangers and Cash. I'd always wondered what they were and thought they looked really good. I was quite surprised when I found out that it was based on the Micra K10. Apparently the colours were supposed to represent the four seasons. I believe they were only available with automatic transmissions, though; I'd prefer a manual option.

There's a video about it here on the Twin Cam channel on YouTube:

I have a bit of a soft spot for Micras - I had a 1992/3 K11 a few years ago and, other than a replacement clutch shortly after I bought it, it cost buttons to run.

I had a 1950 Austin Devon. Stood out from the crowd. Only the front brakes were hydraulic, back mechanical and then they failed, low speed impact. Just as well because then I realised the steering column was 6 ft solid rod from 6 ins behind front bumper to 6 inches from driver's chest. Any faster and I would have been skewered.
When I bought it (for £60) it still had all the old tax discs, "Licence for a mechanically propelled vehicle", 13s6d or whatever. So although I paid road tax and insurance of course, I displayed the 1950 disc, with the valid one underneath. Cue PC Plod who stopped me and cautioned me, no sense of humour whatsoever (whatever you say will be taken down in evidence....), then given a Horti which I gather is still the standard procedure for such circumstances.

Coincidentally, a red 1986/D BMW e30 320i is at a house five minutes' dog-walk from me. Nornal white/yellow plates.

Those silver-on-black plates, when used on 1970-onward reg'd vehicles, are "Marmite" to my eyes.
Post 15, I put a 1972/L Porsche 911 (on black plate), a 1972/L Ford Cortina (on white plate) plus a 1986/D Ford Capri (black plate).
The Capri's retro-fit black plate does nothing for its looks.

An X reg Proton Wira in Bridport, I guess quite a rare find. Bridport (well West Allington really) did have a Proton dealer (the Proton logo still present on the garage), which I suppose was also quite rare.
