New National Rail Map - Very Wrong

National Rail have released a new interactive map at https://railmap.nationalrail.co.uk/#/mapview which features some interesting anomalies.

Alresford (Essex) is listed as Arlesford (Mid Hants)
Southern apparently run services into London Euston
Avanti West Coast call at Rugeley Trent Valley

The website shows an interactive searchable map of the GB rail network with some interesting additions.

Probably because you are correct and LNWR, not Southern, are shown as running into Euston.

I agree with you. I was just guessing why @Steddenm thought otherwise.

Not sure its been created in a vector graphics program either, or its saved as something else, as it gets a bit pixelated if you zoom right in.

Being picky, I would have looked at the way the lines are separated where a TOC doesn't call but another does. Heyford and Tackley for example.

Not sure that really warrants them being shown on a map like this, which is presumably aimed at regular planned service patterns/journey opportunities.

Something is either wrong or it’s right… it’s a binary term.

Although at a cursory glance, I can see some junctions have been put in the wrong places too.

Interesting map.

The Altofts Curve is shown as limited service, even though there are two trains per hour in each direction (Leeds-Sheffield semi-fasts), and should be in Northern's colour. Also, good luck catching a train to/from Deighton...!

I wonder if it’s more likely someone’s seen all the non passenger calls - and then completely missed that they’re all ECS moves?

Because there’s so many reversals in the down platforms when heading between the TRSMD and Bournemouth or Southampton, (in both directions), and as a quick look at RTT shows, there are loads of XC timings shown at Eastleigh early morning and late evening.

After being spoilt by the brilliant colour coded Northern map, this one seems rubbish. For something zoomable, why is it so unreadable? Especially in and around London, it seems ridiculously cluttered!

True, disappointed you didn’t pick up on my use of ‘very binary’ (since edited)

Do you think that those who released it feel like they need to check their work?

Sometimes it seems as though this forum is so thorough and knowledgeable, they just release it and edit it as and when people point it out on this platform.

The Earlestown - Newton-le-Willows area wants a revisit. The TfW 'Earlestown Avoiding Line' is a novel twist, and I can't think of the current service on the W-S side of the triangle?

Elsewhere, Brighouse - Huddersfield isn't shown, although that maybe does reflect the current reality. At Huddersfield, personally I'd be tempted to split the Northern services either side of the TPE line, to make it clear there is not a through service off the Penistone line, but possibly this would set a precedent that would make life awkward elsewhere?

I'm also not entirely convinced about showing the buses to Leeds-Bradford Airport, it might suggest they are a dedicated express link, which is very far from the truth!
