Shame (though operationally understandable) that all these quirky little workings are disappearing one by one.A post today on the RDC Deutschland Facebook page states this Sunday (2 November) will be the last ever planned use of through traffic to Dagebull, off the DB service to Westerland, with the DMU hauling the IC coaches and a 4-wheeled wagon.
It is persumably being primarily driven by the inrtoduction of the ICE-L, which are fixed formation sets, unlike an IC1 set.Shame (though operationally understandable) that all these quirky little workings are disappearing one by one.

A bit laborious but a trawl through www.vagonweb.cz will reveal some gems!Hi- can anyone tell me which lines I will be able to find Czech railbuses on or any diesel loco hauled or old traction in Czechia. Thank you.

and vagonweb will even show trains by coach or unit type. Either hack a vuz= query parameter yourself or on a train formation click on a magnifying glass.Best bet is probably trawling through Vagonweb …
Surprisingly the Central Bohemia region (the doughnut around Prague) has been quite tardy in replacing its diesel units. Certainly if you consider 814s as old there’s plenty of choice and quite a few lines still “boasting” the unrebuilt versions. A couple of months ago there were some 471 replacement loco workings to Milovice (including old DD stock).Best bet is probably trawling through Vagonweb

Last time I had some decent railbus action was Opava - Krnov - Bruntal, then diesel hauled carriages Bruntal - Olomouc.
I'd try
1) Openrailwaymaps to identify unelectrified routes with possible railbus / diesel haul services
2) Run journey planner enquires on int.bahn.de
3) Check allocations on Wagonweb

There is the ability to get at least a partial English translation: click on “Nastavení” (“Settings”) then the UK flag.
All known diagrams there.
I'll have to leave you to self learn the navigation, apart from pointing out the obvious that you need to know the class numbers (which are in red); click leads you to the "aktuální nasazení" tab which is a month by month record of actual numbers and the second tab "přehled výkonů" brings up the actual diagrams.
Bear in mind upcoming timetable change in December - the site is usually speedy in getting the new one out - often in or even before the first week.
How soon is IC1 stock planned to finish on the Gera IC services, and (assuming that the service will survive past that date) what stock is planned to replace it? ICE-L, IC2, or what?Yes they are currently IC1 stock with Class 101 electric locos under the wires.
The Obersdorf IC service is temporarly axed until ICE L comes in. Berchtesgaden is pernamently axed. What about the Obstetdorf to Dortmund IC, IC2012/IC2013. Hoping to catch that in March so would be interested if it's still IC1 as vagonWEB still shows it as that now.
Is that a recent thing? It is shown in the planners for next March. The Obersdorf IC service is temporarly axed until ICE L comes in. Berchtesgaden is pernamently axed.
Yes. It's also a contributing factor to the discontinuation of the IC 2082-2085 (Hamburg - Augsburg - Berchtesgaden/Oberstdorf) pairs. It is persumably being primarily driven by the inrtoduction of the ICE-L, which are fixed formation sets, unlike an IC1 set.
This is currently down as 20 Sep 2026, which will make it the last use of IC1 stock with DB. I can't speak with any confidence on the replacement other than that I recall hearing something about ICE-T and IC2.How soon is IC1 stock planned to finish on the Gera IC services, and (assuming that the service will survive past that date) what stock is planned to replace it? ICE-L, IC2, or what?

IC 2012/2013 (Dortmund - Oberstdoft) has been suspended south of Stuttgart for a few sizeable chunks of the last few months but is back running again. I've seen conflicting information on when the changeover to ICE-L is meant to occur - some sources say the start of June, others a week into July.Is that a recent thing? It is shown in the planners for next March.
Would this be using additional ones that are from the Gotthard sets? Also, having seen the mention of SBB's panorama wagons in the first post - I'm told that there are tentative plans to send three of them on the last EC 8 (Basel - Hamburg) on 12 Dec and thus also the last EC 7 heading south the next day.
Only Transalpin, according to vagonweb. After the discontinuation of the German ECs, am I right in thinking that only 2x Transalpin and 2x Graz - Przemysl are the only regular uses of the panoramawagons?
That makes sense. I did always wonder why the Transalpine stock was sent up to Poland the next day.Only Transalpin, according to vagonweb.
EC106 Graz-Przemysl is replaced by EC206 Graz-Krakow using CD stock plus 2 ÖBB 2nd coaches Graz-Wroclaw. No more SBB stock running in Poland.

Also MAV stock will no longer run to Berlin/Hamburg. EC172/3 replaced by CD ComfortJets 174/5.
OeBB stock shortage plus SBB panorama surplus. That makes sense. I did always wonder why the Transalpine stock was sent up to Poland the next day.
I'm searching DB website but cannot find this running?IC 2012/2013 (Dortmund - Oberstdoft) has been suspended south of Stuttgart for a few sizeable chunks of the last few months but is back running again. Koln-Westerland Intercity service looks to also be reduced, with one through daily service in each direction per day during the winter and spring season. The Westerland services are meant to go over to ICE-L on 01 May, though the IC 2374/2375 Stuttgart - Westerland pair is being cut south of Hamburg as of 14 Dec.
The IC1 shuttles between Hamburg and Binz also end on 30 Apr.
TRI is going to disappear on the MEX13 and RE8, but not on the RE90 to Nuremberg.TRI loco-hauled stock have also been covering Regional services on behalf of Arverio on the RE90 route between Stuttgart and Nuremburg, and this will cease at the December timetable change. TRI seems to, however, continue running on the MEX13 service between Aalen and Schorndorf.
Slightly further afield, there seems to be a single Class 81 in use at a time in Malaysia at the moment. If it looks familiar, that's because it was designed by Hunslet and is based on our Class 323s! Sadly they don't share the entertaining motor sounds of the British fleet.
They've been withdrawn from service several times already, but made a comeback recently and one comes out to play on the 18:45 KL Sentral to Tanjung Malim on weekdays at the moment. It'll have a morning working into Kuala Lumpur as well, though I'm unsure which that is.
Fares are daft cheap - up to about £1 if you want to go the whole way to Tanjung Malim - TVMs with card payment available, or you can tap a bank card/Touch-n-Go card on the gate.
It was substituted on one night by a Series 83 (also an older unit and rather rare in Kuala Lumpur) - so might require a couple of attempts. The majority of KTM Komuter services in Kuala Lumpur are in the hands of CRRC-built Class 92s (usually complete with shattered windows).
Indeed they used to sound identical to our Class 323 trains as can be heard in these old videos. The Class 81s originally had GTO-VVVF propulsion equipment from Dutch manufacturer Holec, whose electrical equipemnt business was later acquired by Alstom. The surviving Class 81 units (only three, apparently) were refurbished in 2018 by South Korean company Woojin Industrial Systems and fitted with Woojin IGBT-VVVF propulsion packages.

The 323s were similarly re-engineered to use new Alstom IGBT traction packages, but retained the original switching strategy to make re-acceptance easier. Consequently they sound almost identical to how they did before conversion. The Class 81s originally had GTO-VVVF propulsion equipment from Dutch manufacturer Holec, whose electrical equipemnt business was later acquired by Alstom.
