Last week the base plan 455 diagrams (25 units in service) as issued from September, that were 455 in reality were, if I am correct, 21 units, ie 10 x 8 car and 1 x 4 car on average. Odd days may have differed due to on the day availability. How many do we have knocking about now in service??! I am tempted to get my CLJ visit in this week before they’re consigned to peak only
I think they are also the last trains with starting bells, as opposed to more modern electronic beeps. And they are the last trains with the Westinghouse compressors, once fitted to hundreds of EMUs all across the country.Something I've never really seen acknowledged, is that when the final 455s bow out, that will mark the end of National Rail trains with roller blind destination displays. Since the final 150s and 156s got their TrainFX kits, 455s have been the only NR trains on the network left with blinds.
Correct, either on wed or thurs. no path in yet.A second scrap move this week is rumoured, according a post on the 701 forum
No, original compressors still fitted.I thought the compressors were replaced when they were retractioned. I must have misunderstood.

Path is now up for Wednesday and it is a very noticeable change from the usual path… https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:K46650/2025-11-05/detailedCorrect, either on wed or thurs. no path in yet.
I had forgotten them. Most are DOO now. I think you are right. Though whether they are genuine bells or an electronic bell sound, I have no idea.Don’t Electrostars have bells? Or are they electronic bells?
I heard 458529 might be taken on Wednesday, or am I confusing things?Path is now up for Wednesday and it is a very noticeable change from the usual path… https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:K46650/2025-11-05/detailed
08:24 off of Wimbledon.
To Long Marston? Or to where?I heard 458529 might be taken on Wednesday, or am I confusing things?
The Newport move should be two more 455sI heard 458529 might be taken on Wednesday, or am I confusing things?
not sure, but I presume Long Marston, although that service is to Newport...To Long Marston? Or to where?
I don’t see anything at long Marston just yet, perhaps in a whilenot sure, but I presume Long Marston, although that service is to Newport...
The 1800 2O53 is 701060.Today I make it that 11 pairs are in service and one single. This is through a RTT trawl.
Units not out today, if I'm right are 5701,02,05,08,10,24,27,29,34,35,50. 5849,64,70.
I know some have been mentioned as dead (5750, 5870?) yet that's quite alot of units not needed.
I may have missed some of course and feel free to advise of any errors or additions. The 1800 Waterloo circular I can't find allocated which usually means a 458 ?
455728 and 455731 are the units planned for tomorrow’s scrap move.

Indeed all of the Electrostar units have bells. The 357 375 376 377 378 379 387 are all fitted with them. They are genuine proper real bells just like the slam door EMUs had. Not electronic bell sounds. So luckily we still have those. You can still hear them on 375 377 387 stock but the 357 376 378 379 are all DOO now.I had forgotten them. Most are DOO now. I think you are right. Though whether they are genuine bells or an electronic bell sound, I have no idea.
Thanks. I am on 5728 on 1917 to Chessington S, returns 2010. Then allocated 2054 to Guilford and then as you say.According to the data to supplied to RTT, both units are in service this evening. Currently 5728 is allocated to 2D78 2242 Guildford to London Waterloo and then to stabled at Waterloo CHS. 5731 is allocated to 2F80 2303 Woking to London Waterloo which should then to 1F83 0033 London Waterloo to Guildford and stable Guildford P4. So there will have to be some swapping around if these two are to go for scrap in the morning.
Ah indeed thanks for that. It appears 1757 Waterloo circular is 5729 5849. So that's 2 off my list. The 1800 2O53 is 701060.
5728 and 5731 are still in service it seems! They’re allocated today so presumably today’s drag will be the two withdrawn units 5750 and 5870 iirc?Would make both trains the fastest units to be scrapped after active service?
No worries, perhaps they are Monday's scrap. Today's is an extra after all.Apologies…that information came from an official document from the last few days so plans clearly changed at a late stage!
