I went on Thursday (6th November) 71000 Duke of Gloucester hauled 'The Royal Scot' between Crewe & Carlisle.
Well done to Saphos tours (LSL) for running and organising this charter which was aimed at the enthusiast fraternity and without a diesel on the back as is the usual noem for Saphos, other than the normal dining oriented tours. Consist was 71000 & support coach, generator van, and a rake of MK1 1st opens & a single 2nd class MK 2a on the rear, which i was in, excellent weather conditions for the run, and i timed 71000 over Shap summit at around 48mph (its varies with different people, so hopefully there was a official timekeeper involved)
Earlier in the morning 71000 Duke of Gloucester comes off LSL shed
runs through the through road at Crewe

D213 Andania hauled the tour from Euston to Crewe

71000 moves off Crewe to attach to the front of the tour

71000 Duke of Gloucester after arriving at Carlisle

I think the Avanti West Coast platform supervisor came to the end of his rope as he called the BTP to clear the end of the platform as members of the public/photographers wouldn't stand behind the yellow line, luckily i was able to get my photos in time, as can be seen everybody seemed to behind the yellow line as a TPE Class 397 departed North

37409 Loch Awe was on hand at Carlisle to take the stock to Upperby shed for servicing and turning
https://railway-photography.smugmug.com/Days-out/2025/November-2025/71000/i-9xj4r53

71000 Duke of Gloucester heads for Upperby

In the evening i decided not to go back to Crewe on the Royal Scot and got some night photos of 71000 Duke of Gloucester at Carlisle

(i went home via Manchester Piccadilly by TPE and was home by 21:15 rather than after 23:30 if i went back to Crewe with the tour)

D11-D137:
42 Aller Junction
43 Exeter St David’s (Red Cow Crossing at the north end)
44 Cowley Bridge Junction
I reckon that several others are in the Down main platform at Exeter, just not right at the south end like the identified ones.

34009-34014
86-88 are the approaches to Waterloo, probably Queen’s Road, Battersea.

I am slightly hamstrung at the moment as Google Images Preview, which I use to check suspicions, has gone to low resolution.

I went to York on Saturday for the 2 Christmas White Rose tours by Sahos & Railway Touring Company
This first set of photos features 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley on the Saphos one, running about 10 minutes late the signaller at York decided to change the platform from P5 to P9, causing a last minute charge for must have been a 100 or so photographers to get over to the other side of the station in time

60007 Sir Nigel Gresley now on Platform 9.

60007 Sir Nigel Gresley next to 802214. 80+ years seperate these 2 designs but very very similar front ends!!

60009 Sir Nigel Gresley will shortly depart for York North Yard with the Ecs for servicing

60007 Sir Nigel Gresdley departing York station for North Yard

57311 The Institution of Mechanical Engineers on the rear
