Id imagine for Chiltern livery on the 196s, it would be the newer livery as seen on refurbished 168s?
Yes of course :) And I wonder what colour the gangway doors will be? (I'm guessing still black, unless they can be "wrapped"?)

I've found on this page on the Steam Workshop website that Celmi has a British Rail Class 196 Western livery pack for Transport Fever 2, that includes Chiltern Railway by Mezzie (not my images, low-resolution preview, both uncropped and my crop attached):

Is there any news as to when the new Chiltern service will likely commence? Bletchley TMD seems to currently stable WMT 730s and the 196s have returned to TY?

Is the existing thread for that, but to answer your question - no

196009/011/012 are all at Bletchley.

196007 now apparently in Chiltern livery.

Has any of the interior decor been altered? The route maps etc.

I really like that livery.

Also - if they're now appearing in the livery, presumably we are finally close to getting passenger services started on the route...?

I can never get used to trains without a yellow front. It looks so strange. But i quite like that livery. It definitely reminds me a lot of the old British Rail Regional Railways livery with those colours.

I'd imagine route maps would of been updated, I doubt the rest of the interiors have been touched since they are subleased from WMR will hopefully be returned to them one day.

It's the same colour palate as RR, or at least seems like it in that image.

Trains without the yellow ends take some getting used to - and if they're not actually going to do anything interesting with the end (like here, or the various plain black ends that there are running around), I'd sooner see it in yellow. Now if someone were to come up with a modern end design equivalent to ATSF Warbonnet or SP Black Widow then we'd be talking...

Wow, it's so nice to see the 196, the first Civity UK class to have multiple operators, actually in the second of its two simultaneous liveries (and the third simultaneous livery of 196+197 combined)! Thanks for sharing!

Something has just occurred to me. In the photo, the Chiltern 196 has its driver's cab door open, and the position it opens to is where the "CAF" logo would be on a West Midlands Railway 196. Does anyone know if the CAF logo has been re-applied?

Think it'll have to grow on me. The light blue band just extending straight through the front end PIS display does not look very polished imo - I feel like they could've suited it to the train a bit better. And there's the whole 'Regional Railways 2025' of it all, though I don't mind that too much.

Some of us can remember how strange it looked when they started applying yellow panels to the front of trains, and then, again, when yellow panels became fill yellow ends!

Seeing in daylight will be nice, but it does look nice

Here's a video (not mine):
10:00 for the arrival and 31:15 for the departure, or use the YouTube clips below:

YouTube clip of Chiltern-liveried 196007 arriving into Oxford in daylight on the 4/11/25:

I like the livery, but something about the front just looks off, like it's unfinished or an after though.

The Chiltern livery definitely looks odd on it without a yellow front , although it's probably just not being used to it as all other Chiltern rolling stock has yellow fronts.

With credit to The Claret & Blue Trainspotter, 4 "video still" photos attached (for accessibility purposes) of Chiltern-liveried 196007 at Oxford on the 4/11/25 (next to 165013 in one of them):

These captures also confirm that the CAF logos haven't been re-applied.

I would prefer Chiltern 196s to have Chiltern interiors. However, I understand they will be on sub-lease from WMR, meaning they will have WMR interiors.

Can anyone on the thread shed light as to whether the 196 lease has been extended or still due to end in 2026?

Unaware at present and can’t find much information on it.

EDIT: 31st March 2026

196010 is route learning on the Camp Hill Line today which is expected to open in March 2026. It will be ironic if WMR open service on that line using Chiltern stock.

Was going to make the effort to go and see the training runs if it's 010 however a quick look on flicker it's still in WMR so I won't bother
