60087 - Wensleydale Railway

Apparently 60087 has had an unscheduled trip to the Wensleydale Railway - does anyone know why?

They rescued it from Castle Hills Junction, and it’s going to be (or may already have been) continuing by road. There’s a post on their Facebook about it

If I remember later I’ll have a look when I’m passing Leeming Bar and see if it’s still there

It suffered a collapsed wheel bearing a couple of weeks ago and is currently waiting for removal by road, there's the possibility of course that it was deliberately sabotaged by DCR undercover operatives in order to get the 'Ingleborough' plates back for 60022

I had thought that. 60087 could always have the Tryfan nameplates ex 44010.

6H12 last Saturday (I think). From what I was told it failed at Northallerton East Junction, then after a while moved forward and failed again near Longlands Junction, another 60 was sent out and put the failed one in the little dock siding by the station, where it stayed until Monday.

It was deemed impossible to move it to York at 5mph with a wheel skate so the Wensleydale were asked if they could assist

A good bit of cooperation - it must have moved to the Castle Hills siding as i don't think the Wensleydale Railway have a mainline certified locomotive.

It was, then 37250 came to collect it.

This is my favourite 60 that's still in service so it's a shame to hear it's suffered such a serious failure.

Is it likely they'll repair it, or given they don't use the 60's on many services, and because of their decision to convert some of their 66/7's to 66/6's, will it be left as is?

They are rare on the Liverpool to Drax biomass workings these days. They use a Class 66 with a Class 69 assissting up from the docks to Tuebrook. The Class 60 at Tuebrook is used on aggregates trains from the S & C or Shap.

As far as I'm aware it's actually owned by Beacon Rail and leased to GBRF, if I'm correct it will have to be returned in workable condition at the end of the lease

Indeed - they went up earlier this week I think

99.9% sure still there. Boxed in by other stock and the yard - which would be required for a road exit - is full of gazebos etc so the Polar Express crowds can exit through the gift shop

I highly doubt it will go anywhere until the the Polar Express has finished.
The car park and where it would be placed onto a Lorry to be taken away, is covered in tents and other displays to do with Polar Express.

Until everything is cleared away out of car park, a lorry can't get in car park to collect the 60, no doubt next week or so should hopefully see some movement.

With all the rumours of GBRf buying the 60s from Beacon Rail, do we know if that has actually taken place?, I'd suspect that the costs surrounding the storage, removal and repair of 60087 have been discussed more than once, could be that a bit of weekend work will have it ready to work this years Polar Express

The 'Polar Express Nonsense' keeps the WR afloat. Without it, they'd have folded pre-covid.
