I heard that 5820 is getting an overhaul, is that true?
And the WD 2-8-0 is under overhaul from what I understand too so I'm guessing that means that 48431 has absolutely no hope of joining the queue any time in the next few years.

It looked like 45212 failed on the East Lancs today.

You never know, we might see something other than a Black 5.
What’s preventing the Std 4 from working? Is there a specific reason why an external loco is required?
As part of the agreement between Riley's and KWVR for the use of 5212, Riley's provide a 5 to the railway for a certain period each year, generally over Christmas and through to the spring steam gala I think (don't know if that bit is specifically in the contract!).

I suspect it will be 44932 again. 5407 and 4871 will be in demand for Christmas market expresses and similar. 44932 can't work any mainline trains at the moment unless Smithy's decided to fit it with air brakes so it might as well work on a heritage line

Agreed, but you’d think between the 101, 144 and Railbus that they would have enough options already. If they preserve any sprinter, a 153; or a 155 or 158 in WYPTE livery would be the best options in my opinion, but will they have room for another unit?
If it's anything I hope its a 155 in WY Metro red.

@Belperpete I think it was you that was asking when the Railbus was operating?

The KWVR have clarified their DMU workings on their roster page until early November. The railbus is working the first weekend in November.

Credit to the KWVR for responding positively to customer feedback on here once again:)

Thanks for that. It is good to have it published so far in advance, as not everyone can visit at the drop of a hat.

Though I don't remember them operating in Airedale... and the 144 is already in one version of Metro livery.

And would normally stay out for the rest of the month, and re-emerge from its slumbers for January-February. It's a very seasonal beast :)

The DRB is rostered to work this weekend (11/12) as well.

An unusually early sighting of a winter "visitor"? :)

Coming out of Oakworth into a tree lined cutting is always bad for slips this time of year.

The 18th December Christmas Carol has low bookings, I’m booked on. Do you think they’ll use a tank engine instead of standard 4 or WCRC loco?

Apparently 41241 struggled out of Oakworth today (Satursay)
No such issues today (Sunday), performed faultlessly. Lovely day out with 41241 in the livery I first saw it in almost 50 years ago, and the German railbus was nice to see as well. Took me back to the 70's

Wouldn't be quite as much fun if it's operated using their Class 144 instead! How much is the 'Christmas Carol' event by the way?

Surely if there was low bookings, they would make it a smaller rake and smaller loco
Possibly, but (1) you have to reform the set twice which annoys the crews :) and more seriously (2) you have to steam two different locos (consecutively) instead of one which wastes coal, water and maintenance time/cost.

It is still quite early. I imagine most families are thinking about October Half Term, Halloween and Bonfire Night at this point rather than Christmas activities.

The Polar Express at the Wensleydale is already fully sold out for 11 complete days, so a lot of families are clearly planning further ahead

Is the set decorated for the carol train? If so, I doubt they would swap it. Many heritage lines decorate their trains for Christmas services.

Christmas Carol isn't a Santa type event though.

I was replying to a comment that "families are thinking about half term rather than Xmas activities" and pointing out that this is clearly not always the case

D0226 top and tail with the 14 this morning. Could almost be a diesel gala!

I visited last weekend, and so got to travel on the DRB. It really is a delightful vehicle. Fortuitously I couldn't make the previous weekend, as it turned out they changed the loco roster and substituted a DMU for the DRB.

I bought a rover ticket, and had a few trips up and down the line, and visited the sheds at Ingrow. With an HRA pass, an absolute bargain. I was surprised how busy the trains were, particularly the steam services, although there didn't seem to be many visitors to the sheds. It has been some time since I last visited, and I was particularly impressed by the work that has been done at Keighley. The Water Tower in particular now gives you something to do while waiting for the next train.

The scanned plans of the line that you can scroll through were intriguing - I hadn't realised that there was a branch off the line between Keighley and Ingrow. Has the railway ever considered reopening it to give a longer journey? That is the only downside to the Keighley really, the line is charming, the staff friendly, but the journey is so short, you struggle to fill even half a day even stopping off at Ingrow.

The KWVR really does need to sort out it's timetabling however. When I booked my accommodation in early October, the KWVR website was showing it running the green timetable that weekend, which I printed out. A week or so before, I double checked, and found that it was still running a green timetable - except it was a different green timetable! Apparently there have been three different green timetables? G1, G2 and G3.

Then when I turned up, the timetable poster showed that it was running the cream timetable instead that Saturday! However, the cream timetable looked suspiciously like the green timetable that I had printed out, and the green timetable on the poster was yet another different green timetable!

So I asked at the booking office which timetable was in operation. The clerk confirmed that it was indeed the cream timetable, only for the station master to come out and find me on the platform to tell me that was a mistake, and they were in fact running the green timetable. That was good news for me, as it meant more trips for the DRB. However, while I was waiting on the DRB I took the opportunity to check with the driver. Good job I did, as he told me that no, they weren't running the green timetable, and this was the DRB's last trip.

Having multiple versions of the same coloured timetable is a recipe for confusion. Even the staff were confused.

Good stuff! What's actually to be seen at Ingrow? Been on the KWVR numerous times over the years but have yet to alight there.

....and an excellent large secondhand transport book and magazine shop, which has lots of past working timetables, appendices, etc.
As I recall, that is part of the vintage carriage trust museum. The only heated part, the rest of the place was a bit nippy on my visit. Entrance to both sites is included in the cost of a day rover, you have to pay extra if you just have an ordinary return. I would certainly recommend visiting the carriage trust site. I was quite impressed that they allow you to get inside and sit in the vintage carriages on display. You might as well visit the Bahamas shed if you are there, there is some interesting stuff there too, but it is quite small and it won't take you long.

Always good to visit the historic carriage museum, lovely workmanship and interesting to see which ones were used in various films and TV shows. The magazine store is fantastic, I managed to find some mags that filled holes in my collection all for the princely sum of £1 each.
