Haslemere is very similar to those two but they are different to what is being asked in the opening post, where the centre line has no platform adjacent.Laindon and Leigh-on-Sea with their fully bi-di middle platforms.
Stoke’s lasted until the introduction of Pendolinos, the 07:00 Manchester-London then used the up main. But it was sensibly removed soon after, eliminating the need for approach release for the up platform line. So that’d be after 2004.Perth and Stoke-on-Trent platform 1/2 both used to have this layout. The middle track was ripped up between 10 and 20 years ago?
Cardonald, Hillington East and Hillington West all have 2 platforms with 3 running tracks.
I don’t think either of the fast lines at Retford have a platformThe example that nobody seems to have mentioned yet is Durham.
The ECML has lots of other stations where one but not both of the fast lines has no platform such as Alexandra Palace, Hatfield, Peterborough and Retford.
Indeed they do - see the opening post, post no #1.![]()
The down fast has a platform (sort of) but nothing has been able to stop there for a long while now.I don’t think either of the fast lines at Retford have a platform
Correct, but the post I replied to said it has 3 platforms "at present", which is no longer true. Before the TP upgrade work started it had 3 platforms.

not sure that counts either!Rugby (only on the Down Side)
That map is wrong, there is an Up Main at Northampton between platforms 1 and 2. https://www.opentraintimes.com/maps/signalling/lec4, https://traksy.uk/live/M+39+NMPTN+-2, https://signalmaps.co.uk/#northampton:1491, https://maps.app.goo.gl/59BoK63pYmacJYLU7
Platform 1, Down Fast, Platform 2 is exactly what the OP asked for and plenty of other examples have been offered that have more than just 2 platforms. Especially if there's a 2-track block on and only the down side is being used, as occasionally happens.not sure that counts either!
there might well be an up main, but there are a lot more than just 2 platformsThat map is wrong, there is an Up Main at Northampton between platforms 1 and 2. https://www.opentraintimes.com/maps/signalling/lec4, https://traksy.uk/live/M+39+NMPTN+-2, https://signalmaps.co.uk/#northampton:1491, https://maps.app.goo.gl/59BoK63pYmacJYLU7
So it has opened out to "can we think of half a station which has running line between 2 platform lines" then?Platform 1, Down Fast, Platform 2 is exactly what the OP asked for and plenty of other examples have been offered that have more than just 2 platforms. Especially if there's a 2-track block on and only the down side is being used, as occasionally happens.
I could understand quibble about something like Birmingham New Street's middle sidings but Rugby seems to be as close a fit as any other station with more than 2 platforms.
Sheffield is mentioned in post #3 so apparently yes.there might well be an up main, but there are a lot more than just 2 platforms
So it has opened out to "can we think of half a station which has running line between 2 platform lines" then?
Nor it does, my mistakethe up fast doesn't have a platform.
Both are lines with platforms with a line through the middle!https://images.nationalrail.co.uk/e...cc31d34be88391bf2/Northampton_station_map.jpg says not
not sure that counts either!
Not quite the original criteria, as posed by the OP, back in post #1.Both are lines with platforms with a line through the middle!
Both are platforms 1 and 2…
Meets the criteria.
So far it looks like Durham and Rhyl...
If the outer platforms are discounted it's TL-Plat-Plat-TL so wouldn't count. Stratford Int'l can only count if considering just the Int'l Plat-TL-Domestic Plat, and disregarding the additional platforms (either way round!).Stratford International is another one, with the Eurostar lines passing in the middle of the platform lines on both sides.
As the outer platforms are out of use I'm sure this would also count as a 2-platform station.
It did indeed…been gone about 18 years now!Havant? Or did the middle line go with the resignalling?
Not been down there for a while! It did indeed…been gone about 18 years now!
