Looking at ticketing for the below route that I'm planning, taking place after the December timetable change:

DepartureOriginDestinationArrivalOperator
11:55LeedsBrough12:46Northern
13:02BroughSelby13:29Northern
14:08SelbyHull14:43Hull Trains
15:49HullGoole16:24Northern
16:34GooleGilberdyke16:46Northern
17:09GilberdykeYork18:01Northern
18:09YorkLeeds18:40Northern

In the absense of a rail ranger covering the whole area, I wonder if the experts on here can find a better combination of tickets than I have. While it's a fixed itinerary, I'd want to avoid advances so that I could reroute in case of delays/cancellations.
With railcard discount: East Yorkshire Round Robin (£21.70) + Leeds to Selby Off-Peak Day Single (Northern Only) (£6.70) + Gilberdyke to Goole Off-Peak Day Return (£3.50) + York to Leeds Off-Peak Day Single (Northern Only) (£10.05) = a rather expensive £41.95.
Alternatively I could wait until I have the opportunity to do multiple trips from Leeds and buy a North East Rover but unless there aren't significant savings to be made over what I've found, I'd rather do this separately. It's also not valid on Hull Trains so would still require a separate ticket for that leg.

Or wait for the next Northern newspaper offer in the spring reducing your price to £12 plus the Hull Trains (plus £4 for the useless newspapers!).

I looked at the offer but it doesn't seem to be available through online newspapers and therefore is difficult for someone living in the East/Southeast to acquire the newspapers required.

Ah are you doing this from Cambridge in a day trip? I would say if you choose your date right you could print out your form in advance, come to Leeds, buy three copies of the YEP at WH Smiths, cut the coupons out, go to the ticket office and Bob's Your Uncle.

Hull Trains have an £8 anytime return between Hull and Selby, that's only available on their website. Might be cheaper than a single.

Thanks for pointing this out. It's only a few pounds' saving but it's something. Looks to be a permanent offer so I'll note that as it could he helpful in the future too (e.g. £20 Grantham-Doncaster is useful for when LNER are only offering extortionate flexible fares).

I think my options will be either this and the Northern newpaper offer (£20 + price of 3 newpapers) or a North East Rover, so it's a matter of how much I value convenience over cost.
