During points & crossover renewals at the London end of Colchester, all Norwich services ran via platforms 1 and the goods lines around 8-10 years ago. Intercity services passed through platform 1 non-stop in both directions as using this route doesn’t allow the full train to be accommodated in the platform. In the early 1990s, when 312’s and 309’s were still in use, I was on a 4-car down service from Liverpool Street to Colchester Town that ran via down goods loop (often referred to as dgl) into platform 1. I can’t remember why that happened. It was way before the station resignalling and layout changes at the London end of platform 1. @LAX54 might be able to explain the reasons why this would have happened.
WTCC = Wembley Train Care Centre, I assume.I,m sure the Up Carriage & down Carriage lines through WTCC are technically through passenger lines. However.... despite the technicalities involved I don't think they have actually been used as a through line. I would be interested to hear if they have.

There used to be a regular Sunday morning Cyclical that required trains to run via this route.During points & crossover renewals at the London end of Colchester, all Norwich services ran via platforms 1 and the goods lines around 8-10 years ago. 1P13 is a Norwich job but I never remember having to go that way so could only have been occasionally for engineering works or before I signed the full GEML route in the back end 2003.There used to be a regular Sunday morning Cyclical that required trains to run via this route.
1P13 07:00 Norwich to Liverpool Street could only be formed of 6 vehicles or less so was a pair of Class 170s instead of an Intercity Hauled set.
It still happens during disruption at Colchester but not too often these days.
Possible points failure, or maybe a track circuit failure,, we were supposed to stop the train at CO1 and expalin to the Driver the circumstances, anything longer than a 4 car, caused a few issues, we needed to ensure the station staff were at the right place on P1 to stop anyone trhying to get off the coaches that were not on the platrform !In the early 1990s, when 312’s and 309’s were still in use, I was on a 4-car down service from Liverpool Street to Colchester Town that ran via down goods loop (often referred to as dgl) into platform 1. Some of the old summer sat trains used to go via the curveAnd the North Walsham-Parkeston tanks. A short lived stone flow from Lowestoft to Alsager also used the curve last year. Apart from those it’s used as you say by engineering trains, RHTTs, and of course several ECS workings each day. GA sometimes leave 745/755s on it when no other traffic is booked usually overnight.

Yes I remember them well mate especially in the summers of 1985/6 when ‘clearing the throat’ and Norwich station was at reduced capacity. Prior to that I like looking at old photos of both the Wensum Jcn and Swing Bridge Jcn ends when it was fully semaphore signalled as double track.Possible points failure, or maybe a track circuit failure,, we were supposed to stop the train at CO1 and expalin to the Driver the circumstances, anything longer than a 4 car, caused a few issues, we needed to ensure the station staff were at the right place on P1 to stop anyone trhying to get off the coaches that were not on the platrform !
The 745's dont fit in P1, so if they have to go via P1, they now dont stop, and you have to go to Manningtree and come back !

It pays to refer to the official documents indeed! Even arranging a through freight or stock along the carriage lines these days would be very difficult.WTCC = Wembley Train Care Centre, I assume.
No, the Carriage Lines are Goods Lines, so not useable by passenger trains except by special authorisation. They have been done by railtours on a few occasions over the years.
The Passenger/Goods/Siding status of all Network Rail lines can be found from the Sectional Appendix documents at https://www.networkrail.co.uk/indus...rs/national-electronic-sectional-appendix/#SA
Aren't the sidings on the south side of the line a separate thing to Neville Hill depot?I don't know if Neville Hill (Leeds) would count, as the Leeds-York/Selby line goes in between the depot and some sidings.
Yes, I can confirm the Volks Electric Railway still goes through the depot which is near Halfway Station. The service has just ceased for the winter now.I haven't been on the Volks Electric Railway for a very long time, but I imagine that it is the same, and would therefore definitely qualify. Can anyone local confirm?
As a child I walked the entire system (out of season I hasten to add), pedantically covering every piece of track, except of course the section within the depot doors.
I'm curious as to when the Northern electric units moved across, as historically the 323s have had their own dedicated shed at the south end of Longsight?Longsight has two sides with the WCML in the middle
397s, 390s, 68s and Mk5a to the East, 323s and 331s to the West.
Those are just my experience of what I see on which side, I don't pass there very often and it's usually quite empty.I'm curious as to when the Northern electric units moved across, as historically the 323s have had their own dedicated shed at the south end of Longsight?
I haven't seen the International depot on the West side used for anything except during the brief period when TPE were operating the mark 5 sets in passenger service, though occasionally I've seen the odd Northern unit requiring tyre turning stabled in the sidings outside at this time of year.
Ah okay, I think that one can perhaps be discounted from the tally at present? Those are just my experience of what I see on which side, I don't pass there very often and it's usually quite empty.
Had not spotted your reply. Many thanks.Tyseley through sidings becoming the up down Small Heath Goods, a running goods line that goes from Tyseley station all the way down to just after Bordesley station. And Splits Tyseley depot in half. Carriage and fueling sidings one side and Vintage Trains and Tyseley TMD the other side.
