Tayport folk needing to go to Dundee to switch to get to St Andrews seems a bit of a flawed plan unless I've misread those plans. The 99 doesn't even stop at bridge access to make an easier connection.
They still have a direct bus, Fife council contract service 77/M77 by Moffet and Williamson in fact bar a gap in the mid mornings the service runs from 5am to midnight hourly.. . No wonder Stagecoach are pulling off the route, lets be fair stagecoach are no angels here but the council hasn't helped either.

Bad (but not wholly unexpected) news - and at least Stagecoach publicise these kinds of changes in plenty of time to object, rather that people finding out at very short notice - with proposed timetables too rather than just 'revised route and timetable'

The 5 is a shame, Stagecoach have certainly tried various things with Dulloch Park, it feels like there ought to be a market there (connections for Edinburgh etc)

The X57 number returns as the third completely different Edinburgh route (originally it was an Anstruther service, then a Cowdenbeath route). But no Edinburgh - Dulloch Park service between 15:05 and 18:05?

The 40 returns as the number of a Cupar - Pitlessie route (it was once the twice daily Kirkcaldy - Markinch - Cupar route)

Since service buses have been used on long distance expresses, and given the reliability problems with local Fife journeys dependant on Edinburgh congestion, I can see the logic of the 40. A similar thing was done with the Leven - Largoward - St Andrews route ( being a stand alone 97) before that went back to being an extension of the Edinburgh service

(and the 40 interworks with the 38 at Glenrothes)

The 65? Well, it was the kind of ambitious expansion that people criticise bus companies for not doing, it felt like a missing link on the map, it's a shame that it's not been sustainable in it's current form

Unless I'm missing something, the first two northbound 59s seem to completely miss any connection with the X59, leaving Glenrothes nine minutes before the hourly coach arrives. Is that a mistake/ does it coordinate with the X24 instead? Maybe it's just not a priority but I'd have thought that some connection was not important than maintaining a half hourly service in the other direction?

M&W get a mention for an alternative Cupar - St Andrews bus (in lieu of the 65), but the Tayport - St Andrews link is just a vague 'other operators'

Probably not surprising to see the 42A coming off, Tayport to St Andrews always felt like a strange corridor to sustain two operators (especially with one tendered). At least the twenty minute Dundee service is an improvement (at the obvious cost of the St A link). No Strathkinness service by Stagecoach now

No cuts/diversions attributed to the pavement parking ban though? I'd certainly understood that there were 'issues' in parts of Dunfermline with badly parked cars disrupting bus routes

And also, no tweaks to routes like the Kirkcaldy town services, which seemed to get ripped up and and revised every few years. Maybe they've got it right this time. Same goes for the increased PVR on St Andrews locals (last year?), hopefully these kind of routes are sustainable

Regarding the terrible X57. Would it not have been easier if the 5 was simply replaced by an extended coach service beyond Ferrytoll into Edinburgh? The 5 has an unfriendly loop, but it does serve Amazon on one side with the houses on the other.

Did the X52 do the job fine? I’ve totally forgotten its exact route before the bridge. Ie, bring that back, but all day hourly with peak enhancements?

That would have been the smart thing to do, but hey what can you do. The main reason for that X57 is to reinstate the 10min clockface timetable from Halbeath Park n ride, However the site is extremely busy so unless Transport Scotland build more car parking space which they really should ( along with more at Ingilston P&R) It might not make a real difference but you never know.

They want the passengers in the Afternoon peak to still change at the Ferrytoll onto service No5.

Tech its try number four? with the X57 as for short period around 2010-2013? it was peak time version X53 and between Kirkcaldy and Edinburgh, or would that just be reinstatement of oringal concept? I remember the No40 in mid 00s being the North Glenrothes to Kirkcaldy route and during the 90s it was Kinross and Gateside loop.

Good to see someone else notice the 40 interworks with the 38. Its not a mistake with the 59s however its a council contract so they have to get thier permission to move to 10mins later..

Make you wonder how long the Current X58 and X61 will have left? They could make one of the X59 and extend it to Leven (to replace 44) and then onwards to East Neuk and St Andrews..

Is the X57 doing a loop, I.e. from Halbeath P&R via Amazon and back to Halbeath P&R via Greenshank Dr?

Still think it would be better to do what the X52 did (Lapwing Dr, Aberdour Rd, Dunlin Dr), it could then go to Halbeath P&R, turn round and head back to Edinburgh the same way, using the A823 in either direction to miss out Rosyth. That way you’re serving all of Duloch Park (including Amazon via the last stop on Lapwing Dr like the X52 did) instead of just half of it.

It’s also stupid that the 2 services that leave Edinburgh between 1600 & 1800 don’t serve Duloch Pk, you can get to work in the morning but not home at night? Yes that will work!!

They have ramped up the publicity to highlight the public constatation in relation to these service changes, you have until next Tuesday. Not sure if that will make any impact? However nothing really solves the running time between many of the locations around the kingdom, it's actually quicker to travel to Edinburgh and Glasgow.

I just get the feeling these changes should have taken place in August...

Anyone know if 62001-62005 are planned to return anytime soon? I’d have assumed they’d be taking their intended 26326-26330?

Or have I misread the plan and they are now not planned to return at all?

Stagecoach never owned them, That's why the plain white dealer stock E200MMC ended up in Dunfermline in 2020

So, if I’m interpreting this properly. Stagecoach don’t own the Stagecoach spec’d buses, ADL do. While ADL does not own the ADL spec dealer stock ones, Stagecoach does. Confusing, but funny! Thank you.

Was the same with First with their E500s although they ended up purchasing them, Some E300s and Streelites that where specced by them, They where leased and now all sold on.

And that's the consultation now closed. The date they seem to be heading towards is Monday 24th November, will it make any difference? They have publicised it on social media and even more surprisingly have put posters up on some of the buses. I think it's set it stone. However there is still some other changes which will need to take place which has NOT be publicised as of yet. No one seem to know what Fife council is going to do with its Howe of Fife routes, which will once again need to be revised because of these changes.

Maybe they should keep the X54 but run it every 2 hours from Kirkcaldy - A92 - Glenrothes - Ladybank - A92 - Dundee?

Not many operators advertise their changes and ask for customer feedback prior to the registration process with the Traffic Commissioner.

This isn’t the first occasion that Stagecoach East Scotland have done this and full credit to them.

Stagecoach East and West Scotland are merging to create "South Scotland" which will start from the 1st November. Its unclear if both will get merged onto one operating licence.

A number of Stagecoach employees will be able to confirm this news, makes me wonder if other parts of the Stagecoach empire are getting merged?

Interesting, have also heard this elsewhere. If it happens, that means there will be buses from Stagecoach South Scotland in Aberdeen... (the X7)

Presumably a consequence of the considerable downsizing from the original Stagecoach Western/Stagecoach Glasgow.

Surely they'd want to keep both licences due to the flexibility it offers? Only one licence makes them more vunerable if the Beak takes action!

When Highlands and Bluebird merged to form North Scotland, they subsequently surrendered the Highland Ops licence.

They needed to do that with Elgin rationalisation as they would to perpetually have a lot of on loan notices every day. The East West Scotland situation is not similar.

Stagecoach East Scotland related question. I seem to remember back in the early 2000s a service by Stagecoach in Edinburgh which was basically an airport taxi bus service. Am I remembering correctly? May have been around the same time as Mr Motorvator coaches.

I remember Yellow Taixbus service, and I remember Lothian doing an Airport minibus shuttle from hotels to the Edinburgh airport, I don't remember Stagecoach doing something like this.

I would love to hear about it if they had.

I was sure it was Stagecoach that ran that service. I could be wrong though.

I was misremembering it as an airport service.

I'm almost 99.9% sure it was Stagecoach behind it. I lived in Dunfermline at the time and it was very useful as it did drop offs in places like Duloch. I'm sure you had to book it like a taxi but it was much cheaper as you were sharing the cost with the other occupants. The local Dunfermline taxi companies hated it as it ran pretty late if I remember rightly and was much cheaper. I don't remember it lasting that long.

Yellow Taxibus was indeed operated by Stagecoach in Fife from their Dunfermline depot.

The following info is taken from Wikipedia.

In August 2003, the United Kingdom's first entirely commercial demand responsive bus service was launched by Stagecoach East Scotland in Fife. Trading as Yellow Taxibus and using the AA Buses Ltd legal name (transferred from Stagecoach West Scotland where it was purchased with the AA Buses operation in Ayrshire), the operation combined the benefits of a fixed bus route with the flexibility of pre-booked taxi pick-ups. Yellow Taxibus operated a fleet of eight-seater Mercedes-Benz Vito vehicles on a high-frequency service between Dunfermline and Edinburgh seven days a week;[7] however after a two-year trial, the loss-making service was withdrawn in November 2005.[8]

I was on one of the new Volvo BZL's (service 72) today for the first time and it was making one hell of a noise on board. The best description I can think of is that it was a less-loud version of the noise a Class 91 makes when it departs.

I assume that was an oddity with this particular bus and it's not normal? Because it would get very annoying very quickly, especially if you're going from Dundee to Arbroath! It would also render the next stop announcements moot because they were completely inaudible.

Is that maybe the air conditioning?

One interesting point from the service changes, which has not been made official ( nothing has yet) is the fact the X57 will NOT operate into Edinburgh bus station. Instead the service will operate a one way loop along Princess Street down to York place then back along Queen street. I'm not one bit surprised as the jct going into and out of the bus station is a disgrace, and Edinburgh city council never does anything to sort out the issues, If you check the draft timetable for the late night X55 it appears to be doing the same aswell. Has anyone else notice first journey of the day on the X55 are missing going towards Edinburgh but not the returns.

There is still no word from Fife council over the proposed cuts leaving Tayport without a direct bus to Cupar .
