Indeed that’s what I meant.

And how far back through a thread am I meant to read to understand that's what is meant?

It's basically a UK Railway specific interpretation of Godwin's Law:

"As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of it becoming a discussion about train seats approaches one."

In other words, you are just expected to know this stuff :D

You asked the question, another poster replied and I simply confirmed that the other poster was correct. Simple, straightforward confirmation done without any patronising tone. At no point did I reply “how many times do we have to repeat this?”, “haven’t you searched the thread?”, etc. I myself wouldn’t want to go through hundreds of pages to find the answer when a helpful user can easily provide quick clarification.

I simply asked how far I am (or anyone reading this thread) is expected to search a thread to see what LEAN means.

We are always told not to use abbreviations. (And yes I have done and I've had admins asking me not to).

Writing seats instead of LEANS is clear to understand for everyone concerns.

Not everyone knows what leans means.

Rogers now has his caveat for his fanfare speech - first bi-mode in passenger service in electric mode (he can’t say first AT300 in electric mode per se due to the 395s, of course).

First of many .

All this is dependent on there being no brush bucket in the way though!

Indeed. Even the premier international operator over the fence at St P manages to supply those, despite the trains being far less intensively used!

Does anyone know what the training entails for the Class 810s for drivers? How many trips are needed?

Which still a lot of people will
Not know, where would the harm of been in just writing seat!
Because my assumption was that most readers of the 810 thread would be familiar with the particularities of these bespoke units, seats included. If people are getting into the nitty gritty of the differences between these and 80x, seats are one of those elements alongside shorter carriages, four engines instead of three, etc.

That is not to say I’m not inclusive. As I said before, any unclear info can be clarified with a quick, simple question and a helpful user answering as such. Most of us in the forum don't have the attitude of “you should know the answer”, “go and search for the answer”, etc. We are inclusive towards those with less familiarity of the 810s.

Anyway, let’s not get bogged down by this. Going forward, I’ll try to be a bit more simplistic, but some of the more technical aspects of these units are unavoidably complex.

It’s 3 weeks - 5 days per week and includes a week of theory and 2 weeks handling. So I’ve heard at least, that could change of course!

That's a very precise figure! So Sunday 30th November if my calculations are correct?
It's a very loose figure as it could have up to 30 days removed from that.

My betting will be a single service or return to Derby just to tick a box, and say it's done.
Wasn't something similar done with the 360's, they ran a single service London to Corby as a 12 car to say they had done it.
They have never run as a 12 car for EMR.

The seat type going into the 810s - FISA Leans

Not everyone knows what leans means.
LEANS means Heinz.
(Apologies, was the first thing that popped into my head when I read that).

Looks like 810009 is out again today:
Although it looks like there have not been any test runs out of Old Dalby this week - every day a round trip to St Pancras has been scheduled and then cancelled.
Are the units at Old Dalby being proven and prepared for handover to EMR? Or is that done elsewhere?

So obviously we look forward to the first one in service, but in many ways allows boxes to be ticked and gives something for people on internet forums to talk about ;)

However, 3(?) are needed just to cover what's already been/being stood down, and I guess more quite soon, as presumably Lumo will want all 5 of their trains refurbished and available for their new services next summer?

Add in bathtub curves of reliability and that the currently quite fragile IC operation, then to me it really only counts when there's a significant number in operation - at least 5.

So any dying down of activity at Old Dalby makes me wonder how long the period where there is a token 1 or 2 units in operation will last.

Everything 810 related out of Old Dalby is GBRF operated test runs prior to handover.
Everything else 810 related is EMR operated driver training/familarisation.

No, you're thinking of LEAYS...
As a comms person, it's my role to understand this stuff and re-interpret it for the masses, but even I get confused. Why is LEAN capitalised but not an acronym, for example?

I'm unlikely to ever travel on an 810 but it will be interesting to hear opinions once they're out in the wild. They might not be as bad as we think.

810010 at Aycliffe should be the next unit to be handed over/accepted by EMR, and I believe this unit will be to the required standard to be used with passengers on board.

The other two units accepted by EMR (008/009) need further work before being allowed to carry passengers.

They have it was a single service iirc crewed by Managers as no agreement with the unions. Believe it was a few months after they started (was it a contractual reason)

What's the update on 810006? I was told that was being handed over before 010

Do they presumably pan up beyond Wigston when heading towards Kettering ? Are there balises for that, or are the drivers trusted ?
More importantly, panning down before getting to Wigston on the northbound (Is it Up or Down to Derby in traditional Midland vernacular? )

I was told 006 and 010 next, so 006 could be next, however 010 seems to have a lot more activity with staff over last week or so, on test track and on a certain piece of track where they seem To spend time before leaving the factory.

Presume its drivers responsibility, as surely if they had balises they would activate software for auto pan change?
