197012 has re-entered service today after its longish period in store at Holyhead. What work has been carried out on this unit whilst at Holyhead?Has the wheel lathe finally opened?

197031 has worked 5Z31 Holyhead - Chester TMD today so should be in service shortly.

Where is 197025 then ?
Last I heard was left Donnington for Crewe (carriage sidings ?) on 29/08/2025.
Would be par for the course for it to next sample the sea air at Holyhead (storage).
I'll add, just to be clear:

68 197s have been in service (197001-022, 197024, 197027-031, 197033-036, 197042-051, 197101-126)

7 197s have been delivered but haven't yet entered service (197023/025/026/032/037/038/039)

2 197s haven't yet been delivered (197040 and 197041)

Firstly a look back to 29/08/25 on FreightLocate shows the path from Donnington to Crewe as being cancelled at customers request.
Secondly a posting on another enthusiast's forum reports one coach of 197025 being returned to Newport from Donnington at the end of March 2024.
Has anyone actually viewed it along the N Wales coast on test runs ?
So does anyone know for sure where 197025 is currently please ?

197025 is either Crewe or Chester and is currently under going testing/acceptance.

The unit moved from Donnington to Crewe as 6G97 on 29th July hauled by 66594.

I notice that the 197 diagrams to International have altered. Anyone know the reason why?
I believe it was to jiggle units around for summer capacity so its gone back to how it was. Eg the evening Birmingham International to Llandudno is normally a 2car 158, but it was upped to a 3car 197 for the summer, and is now a 2car 158 again. Believe it also allowed for strengthening of a couple of cambrian services by using 197s on Birminghams to free up a few extra 158s.

Theres been a reduction in 197s diagrammed across the board. Theres now 47 diagrams down from 50/51 diagrams previously. Expected poorer availability with leaf fall ai believe is behind it. They do seem to be struggling at the moment with a lot of 197 train faults causing early turnbacks and the Marches being disrupted earlier by one failing.

I notice that the 197 diagrams to International have altered.

DIagram now appears to be:

1I10 - 0722 Holyhead - Birmingham International
1J75 - 1208 Birmingham International - Shrewsbury
1I16 - 1330 Shrewsbury - Birmingham International
1D15 - 1508 Birmingham International - Holyhead
1G76 - 1920 Holyhead - Birmingham New Street
(ECS to Birmingham - Shrewsbury)

Booked as a pair of 197s, except for 1G76 which is booked for a single unit.

197036 going solo on the whole diagram today though by the look of it

Thanks for the update. When I had a look on RTT yesterday, i noticed 51 were in service (including quite a few of the Cambrian units). However some might have been in service for part of the day and replaced by another unit as I didnt check that in depth.

Has the reduction to 47 diagrams also meant more Sprinters booked or just some are short formed to what they were? I noticed a few on Cheltenham/Maesteg/Ebbw yesterday. Plus a few short forms on the Marches.

There was quite a lot of disruption due to fallen trees/branches yesterday, which caused a lot of unit displacement. I think there were also a small number of tree/branch strikes yesterday which has left some units (158s though mainly, I think) needed some repairs today leading to some more short forms.

Long ECS move, although not like it can attach to 1J36 at New Street due to the inability for a 158 to work with a 197. Although shame it can't run in service in front of 1J36 to potentially soak up some of the crowds especially as 1J36 calls at all the shacks to Shrewsbury

Birmingham was 3 now 2 in a day so 1 is saved there, the 5th Mk4 diagram was also booked a 197 until yesterday so theres a second. Not too sure whether the other is to lose a set somewhere or just tweaking.
There's had to be a lot of set swaps with both infrastructure and set issues these last few days to keep anything running so quite a lot of swapping and units covering parts of various diagrams affecting the numbers that are actually out.
8 different ERTMS sets have been out today too whilst a 150 has covered parts of 3 different 197 diagrams and 3 orhers covering 197 duties at various points too. The 150s covering for a variety of different fleets with all bar 2 being out in service today.

Would anyone know if the 158/197 unit change over on the Cambrian line will happen this December timetable 25/26?.
Considering that the most recent official estimated entry-to-service date of the 197s on the Cambrian was given by Transport for Wales as the first quarter of 2026 at the earliest, but I've heard elsewhere that it could be later than that, and we know how things can keep being delayed and delayed and delayed, I would say that it's unlikely. But surely at least sometime in 2026.

Can anyone in here tell me when the driver training is planned to start?

There is a 150 covering for a 197 on Pembroke/Swanline diagram. Also another 150 appears to be on a Cheltenham-Cardiff diagram.

As for the Cambrian, it was said at the end of 2023 that 197s wouldnt be expected to start until December 2025 which was already putting it a year behind to what was expected. Is there a reason why training cant start on the 197s for the depots on the Cambrian line?

197026 5Z26 Holyhead - Chester TMD 17/09/2025.197009 attached at Chester prior to entry to the depot.

197044 worked 5T04 Chester TMD - Holyhead yesterday.Did it take 197004 with it as this unit appears to have been moved from Chester Middle Sidings.
I'm just going off the headcode so any confirmation of the move would be appreciated.Thanks.
