Dinner with my youngest son, who I haven’t seen for over a year. The fact that I had to go to Berlin for it is a bonus :D

Found out today that I have finally passed my maths GCSE with a grade 4 after three attempts.

Well done mate! And you're not alone, it took me 3 attempts to get a C too.

Ordered a box of 20 nuggets from McDonald’s and ended up with 21.

Winner winner chicken nugget dinner!

(Incidentally, the new dip with the 'spicy' nuggets is great... the nuggets are decidedly not spicy but the dip is.)

Hearing my wife's ranting yesterday evening and again this morning, about the two sixty something, able-bodied female owners of these two cars. Parked so badly that they'd both obstructed access to parking spaces around them. On their return to their cars, neither owner seemed remotely aware; one was more interested in lighting a cigarette and sitting in her obstructing vehicle...

At least it helps reinforce stereotypes. :D
Hi. I don't believe those cars are parked - it looks to me more like they have been abandoned or dumped!!!

After a long day in London, I and a couple of others was waiting, for a District Line train from Acton Town to Ealing Broadway and hence home, and, it having been a long day, I was waiting right by the steps at the front end of the platform. A Piccadilly Line train came in first, with the driver's door open. The train operator noticed us, waved, and shouted something jolly like "Just letting in some fresh air!" before closing the doors, giving us another wave, and departing. I am not a very sociable person at the best of times, and particularly not at the end of a long day, but this little conversation really brightened things up for me. I guess it was a much-needed reminder that, even though we humans seem to enjoy putting ourselves against ourselves, stranger against stranger or friend against friend, there is still simple jocularity and happiness that can go a long way. Such as this thread, on a board that can get very heated and serious on occasion! The simple pleasures in life are often the most profound...

Most football fans probably know that Grimsby Town actually play in Cleethorpes.

I just discovered that Cleethorpes Town play in Grimsby. I like the symmetry.

Our Fostered German Shepherd, who turned two at end-June. Smiles every day.

He had been badly treated and then he was abandoned, all in his first year alive. German Shepherd Rescue South took him in and were desperate to place him with a foster family, as he was too fragile to live in kennels (he has advanced arthritis in both rear hips).
Our previous Shepherd had passed about a year ago; and so we offered to foster this fluffy boy from mid December.
He settled in very quickly and he's part of our family. We love him and he adores his life with us.

Oh my gosh, what a gorgeous goodboy he is!

Thank you. :) He gets quite a bit of attention and quite a lot of people think he's female. His demeanor's as gentle as his looks.

What else made me happy today? Seeing the final GBRf 69 released to traffic, on its jaunt from Eastleigh (Arlington) to Tonbridge GBRf. Absolutely stunning in "retro" livery - and it passed during a short gap in today's rain! Photo is attached.

Two new clients this morning, despite some difficulties in contract negotiation :)

Also now taking a month off and going to spend it mountain biking, kayaking, hillwalking, so I'm quite looking forward to the next few weeks :)

I'm guessing from your location (Australia) that it is going to be a long journey. Will this be your first visit to London? If so, perhaps you might like to start a thread seeking suggestions as to what to do and see?
It will be. It's my first trip overseas. I'll be packing in things like no tomorrow.

I have started booking things like the NRM in York and the trains to get there for instance. I've got some ideas on what sort of needs photographing train wise.

I'll be easily spotted in London. Probably the only one wearing a Montague Street Bridge shirt and a St Kilda Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera shirt.

I will just say 311 AUD for a return trip to York is quite outrageous. Given the same distance here is 11 bucks!

Just completed a fairly long drive, and every set of traffic lights encountered was green, or turned to green as I approached the braking point. :)

Ambling through Hebden Bridge secondhand market this afternoon, I spotted a stall with a box containing a number of railway books. Inside the box I was delighted to find copies of Signalman's Morning and Signalman's Twilight by Adrian Vaughan....two books which I have been wanting to read for many years. I asked the stallholder how much he wanted for them, as no prices had been pencilled in. "Oh, let's say a fiver" says he. Thinking that he meant a fiver each, I happily handed him a tenner from my wallet, thinking that he wanted a fiver for each book. Imagine my surprise and delight when he handed my back a fiver, saying that the price was a fiver for both books! :D
I wonder how much they would have fetched on E-bay?

You beat me threefold, but £200 is a reasonable win!
To be honest I'm glad to win anything nowadays as the prize pay-out is pretty low at the moment ,the most in any month this year so far was £100 until today .

A very random (and minor) thing which made me happy the other day - seeing our postie's van now with HM The King's cypher on the side. It's taken a little while for it to appear but I like it - and on a clean Royal Mail van I think it looks very smart.

Another little thing: glanced out of the train window at just the right moment to see, on the ground below, the shadows of the train and the viaduct we were just passing over. The low sun was at the perfect angle.

That sounds like you were "grounded" and "in the moment"
