Hi, hopefully the correct area of the forum.
I am going through some slides taken at Skegness on a Saturday in the late summer of 1982 - probably late August.
There were five SO workings plus a special, departing as follows :
17:30 Derby 20 070 + unidentified 20
17:45 Shrewsbury 45 120
17:57 Merrymaker to Bedford and Elstree 45 020
18:18 Leicester 20 088 + 20152
18:30 Derby 45 138
On the day in question it appears that 45050 was shunting rolling stock from the sidings to the station. From the sequence of slides it appears that the 20s worked the 18:18 to Derby and the 18:30 to Leicester thus leaving the 45. Was it the practice to send a loco to shunt/stand spare for a failure as I can see no reason for the "extra" which would then have had to run LD back to the East Midlands.
Any assistance to clarify the working arrangements would be much appreciated
