No-one has made the point that buses need more padded seating to absorb the bumps of the road surface (he says, after sampling a London Superloop for an hour).

(That's not to defend rail seating.)

Bus companies are too cheap for that, but there exists few companies that do full active pneumatic suspensions on coaches

The Yutongs that Flixbus have, they have very poor legroom.

Flixbus is rock bottom budget to be fair. NatEx is a bit more generous these days.

The 800 series IETs do have great legroom.

This is certainly not my experience. GWR and LNER I have struggled to fit in, either accepting my knees jammed uncomfortably into the seat in front or having to sit far more upright than comfortable to keep them off. And I'm only 6'1.

You must have a VERY long upper leg for your height. I have a good 2 inches spare on 80x (bar Lumo's cattle wagons) and I have a 35" inside leg. That or you like slouching.

I probably slouch a lot more than I should, it's true, but then if I sit up more I find the whole seat shape pretty uncomfortable.

It's not ideal, but in the end whether I fit at all is pretty high up the list of importance. On the 730/2 for instance I find the shape of the Standard seats rather more comfortable than those in "first class", but as the legroom in most of Standard is so poor (and most seats with extra legroom have no window view, unlike the 350 where they are fully aligned) I accept the compromise of the seat shape being a bit less than ideal and sit in "first class".

Last time I flew with BA to Japan, I noticed how much more comfortable the seats on board were compared to the IET I'd just used to get to the airport! The crux of the matter here is that, pound for pound, I would wager the aviation industry is much more extreme wrt fire regulation than even the railway. Not to mention that aviation seats have to also be as light as humanly possible, and will typically be in use for >14 hours at a time.

Not just you, the Rail Standards and Safety Board said at the time it was hogwash. Funny how the claim has stuck in people's head but the rebuttal got almost completely ignored.
