I was on 333007 yesterday which has now received TrainFX mods and it doesn't say that additional bit i.e. Welcome to the Menstion (time) train. (although the announcement speakers were not working)
Does it still say "Welcome to the x Train"? Or has that completely gone now?
While I'm not keen on the TrainFX system on the 170, I actually don't mind the TrainFX mod on the 333 and think they've done a better job on that in my opinion.
Agreed. They don't have the weird crackling static sound that the 170s have. The tfx announcements still sound muffled & low quality compared to the legacy system on the 333s (I'm assuming they haven't changed the PA speakers during the mods). I still think they'd be better off getting a completely different PIS system than Tfx (i.e: Televic, Whiteley's, or a newer version of the original system)

I'm hoping they can find a way to preserve the original Dan Strauss recordings in some form. I'd love it if they could digitize the announcenents and upload them to Tfx on the 333s

I must have been mistaken about the missing destination display then, it was parked in front of 013 in Broughton Road

It's definitely not been done.

I recently noticed one of the revolting ex EMR 156s with a poster saying "sorry for my state" and refurbishment due soon. Are these new, and is the refurbishment actually due to happen soon?

If you're talking about these posters, they've been around for at least a few months, and also appear on some ex-WMT 323s.
We're in the middle of a makeover... Please excuse our appearance, we have a refurbishment planned for this train.

Annoyingly the 323s don't need much doing - warm white lighting and properly fitted interiors make them actually nice to be on as they are now.

Of course, some idiot will replace it all with cheaper moquette, excessively bright cool white LED lighting, and blitz the interior with badly masked appliance white contrasted with funeral blue, to instantly start picking up dirt and stains.

At least that poster does not say "sorry for my state" as in implying the train is some kind of living thing. It's something that bugs me when I see patronising messages like that, it comes across as customers have got child like minds when a more grown up message would suffice.

As it happens, I have travelled on one of the ex EMT 156s before the blue seat covers etc got added and at least those 156s have lighting diffusers which for me makes the appearance looks a lot better than the bare tubes the 156s northern has(apart from the NE based ones of course).

This will have probably been mentioned before but is it only the 158/9s heading to Crewe, or the full fleet? (I know the 3 car units are going elsewhere)

Yes, only the 158/9's are being done at Crewe. The Porterbrook 158/7 3 car units have all gone through Brodie Engineering in Kilmarnock (with a couple returning for retrospective work). The Angel 158 fleet is yet to be awarded but will be done by Angel under contract to whoever.

Thank you! Also I saw a path from Neville Hill to Crewe this morning, and RTT shows 158906 is not in service today, so presumably that unit going down?

I think the warm white lighting is mostly because the diffusers are so discoloured from heat/UV from the lamps!
Very noticeable when the lights are off.

Any updates on how the current digital train mods are getting on with the 323s? I believe 323241 was in for the works was last thing I heard?

Also any updates on when 323243 will enter traffic?

One for diligentdave what is the new expected date for 150218 return. Also has 156420 date changed. With the swap at the weekend of 150105 returning and 150107 going to Wolverton, are we getting a 90bday turnaround now.

150218 is currently expected to sort of maybe return possibly on the 21st August. 156420 (do you mean 402?) 156402 has returned to Heaton but is waiting for an exam. Yes, sort of. The 150's are down to about 90 (ish) days.
