Some news from The Mid Hants Railway that will surprise some. Thanks to Porterbrook, 150321 will be preserved on the Watercress Line.

The two attached images are of the text above and of 150231 in Sprinter livery at Derby.
Amusingly it was actually The Greatest Gathering who leaked this a week or two ago, swiftly removing it from their Facebook page after someone presumably told them it wasn't supposed to be made public yet! My understanding is that it was originally to be 150235, which remains the number on the replacement Facebook post dated 20 June.

I note the Watercress Line have also since had to edit their own Facebook post after it was pointed out the wording in the original post wasn't entirely accurate ("making us the first heritage railway in the UK to operate a second generation Diesel Multiple Unit"). I guess no one told them about the Pacers in various places or the Great Central Railway's Class 153s!

There was no way a Sprinter unit wouldn't be preserved.

Hope it's in relatively good condition.
Would be great if one example of all Sprinters gets preserved, like the Pacers they have been extremely important for British Railways over the past 40 years.

Will someone be paying for 150231 to get the overhaul done if it’s not being scrapped?

I was really hoping that TfW would put one of their 150s in the original "Sprinter" livery as a nod to their 40+ years of service on the Valleys, but it looks like they are just running the fleet down before sending the 150s for scrap.

If they were to do that the fire damaged units would've been most likely.

It takes the brunt of vegetation strikes and if it starts leaking it drips straight on to the driver.

150257 worked 1W85 2121 Cardiff - Chester today as far as Shrewsbury. A very rare these days appearance of a 150 on the Marches south of Craven Arms.

Crewe-Shrewsbury stopper was a 158 all day so guessing they are short of Active Travel sets again.

Not the most ideal send off for 257 with it's last expected service (2E99) being cancelled due to a fault according to RTT.

Probably one of the worst places for it to fail due to its remoteness!
Certainly is! It got going again and has made it back, currently in Cardiff Central for the last time as an operational unit before heading to Canton via Pengam.

Does anyone have a list of how many 150s are still in service with TFW and how many diagrams there are on average currently? Many Thanks.

When did 150213 go?
I completely missed that one going. C6 is not up until September. It's last passenger run was 2B46 1154 Pontypridd to Cardiff Bay on 30/07/25. It terminated at Cardiff Queen Street and then went to Canton so presumably quite a serious fault that wasn't worth repairing.

19 of the remaining 22 are out today, including one to each of Pembroke Dock, Ebbw Vale and Severn Tunnel Junction.

Currently at Unimetals Newport but not scrapped are 150229 (arrived last week, forgot which day) and 150253 which has just arrived today at approximately 1600. Suspect both will be cut up sooner or later, although Unimetals are currently going through a lot of rolling stock at the same time!
