They've sent an e-mail round tonight giving a few restrictions on what can be brought in; among these is a bag size limit of A4 in size and 20 litres capacity. That one is interesting because most 20 litre bags are somewhat bigger than A4 size...

...and beware, those who have swapped or sold tickets - they have indicated they will be randomly checking tickets by checking the bank cards used to buy them with...

To ensure the safety and security for you and all our visitors throughout the event, the following items will be prohibited:

  • bags larger than A4 size or over 20 litre capacity
  • luggage
  • alcohol
  • glass bottles and glass containers
  • BBQs
  • restricted and illegal substances
  • knives and offensive weapons
  • items that are deemed dangerous, offensive or unsuitable
  • drones or remote-controlled aircraft
  • step ladders or any similar item which may obstruct another attendees’ view
  • lasers
  • fireworks, pyrotechnics and flares
  • any items which might be used to undertake ambush marketing
  • smoke canisters
  • tents and shelters
  • four-wheeled carry carts (excluding those used to carry children but they must be empty at the gate)
  • powered scooters (excluding disability scooters) and hover boards
  • electric or manual cycles (subject to availability, bicycle parking is available at the main entrance and are left at the owner's risk)
  • sun parasols
  • headboards
  • selfie sticks and camera poles
  • ticket holders shall not be permitted to enter the venue in fancy dress or clothing that in the opinion of Alstom and its security partner is not appropriate for The Greatest Gathering or to be worn or taken into the venue
  • any item which in the opinion of Alstom and its security partner may be used for the purpose of protest within the site, including, but not limited to flags, clothing or any other item for the purpose of locking on

There is no capacity on the site to store any prohibited items, including personal luggage, and they will be disposed of by the security team if left at the gate.
While entering and visiting Derby Litchurch Lane Works, you agree to:

  • provide a legible electronic version on a mobile device or a printout of your e-ticket. You may also be required to show the credit or debit card used for the purchase, in order to validate your e-ticket. If presenting electronically, we recommend downloading your e-ticket in advance of arrival
  • comply with mandatory bag searches upon entry
  • not carry out any activity whilst on site which is damaging, dangerous, offensive, illegal or immoral. Abusive or violent behaviour to our stewards, security personnel or other visitors will not be tolerated and you will be asked to leave immediately. Alstom and its security partner, by their sole discretion, reserve the right to remove any individual from the event they reasonably suspect are posing a safety or security risk
  • refrain from smoking (including vaping) except in designated areas highlighted on our map
  • ensure visitors under 16 years of age are accompanied, at all times, by an adult
  • not come with pets, except registered assistance or guide dogs
  • seated proceedings (i.e. in the Mobility Theatre) during The Greatest Gathering are unallocated and are available on a first-come, first-served basis
  • be featured in any filming, photography and/or sound recordings by Alstom or third parties to be used in perpetuity without payment. You are responsible for bringing this to the attention of any person for whom you have bought tickets. We will take reasonable steps to let visitors know if filming or photography is taking place during their visit
  • take photographs and videos for personal use only
  • not copy any material which is protected by copyright without the consent of the relevant copyright owner. If this occurs you may face criminal or civil penalties

That statement contradicts the below quote, and a few others that have stated that they've contacted the organisers about gifting tickets at zero expense with the reply showing no concern about it.
I ended up paying for two sets of tickets as a result of the original ticketing farce.
Despite asking for a refund, I ended up with a second set of tickets being issued anyway.
I did manage to find a friend-of-a-friend who wanted them, so told Greatest Gathering team that's what I'd done, and I no longer required the refund, and they didn't raise any kind of concern about the transferability at that point.

That's going to be difficult to do for those people who bought tickets during the original 'Mortons' farce, paid with PayPal, and then got replacements via SeeTickets. No way the person scanning the tickets could even know what the original card used was!

Even if it was the case, there is nothing in the original T&Cs that say all holders of tickets on the same order must arrive at the same time.

Suspect it's just a threat trying to discourage touting.

Interesting... I wonder if the people writing the e-mail haven't fully checked with everyone else.

There's also a bit of a contradiction in the e-mail itself... it says no bags bigger than A4 size, yet immediately - in the same line - says bags up to 20 litres capacity are OK. Which suggests a 38 x 27 x 18cm shoulder bag should be acceptable, that working out at 19 litres, but A4 size is 21 x 30 cm - quite a considerable difference...

I've just mailed them querying this; I'll report back if I hear back before Thursday afternoon.

That would sound reasonable to me.

Indeed and seems quite a restrictive, for example most change bags are bigger than an A4 sheet, and I'm bringing my 9 month old with me so....

Let us know what they say.

Having thought more about it 12,500 is perhaps not that large a number. Less than half the number that turn up at nearby Pride Park for a Derby County football match.
That is a location set up specifically to receive large numbers if people in a short term.

This is more a temporary festival held in a location not designed for the purpose

Alstom should not be doing this; as far as payment card security is concerned it's very bad practice. Only the retailer (the booking agent) who holds the merchant agreements is allowed to do this, and only then via a controlled method, i.e. electronically.

There was an incident at a festival in Holland not that long ago when an employee was carrying out a similar inspection.... whilst wearing a covert camera which recorded card details.

Agree about the bag size being a little too restrictive. This is something they need to look at urgently. Can you only have one bag or multiple? There are retailers there so want to be able to carry merchandise.

The nappy bag will be coming with us as we will be taking our 3 month old, and that is certainly larger than A4.

I had a reply to my e-mail querying the bag size limits:

Me to them:
A quick question please... how are you defining A4 size for bags? Screenshots below from tonight's e-mail from your team and from a size calculation website.

My shoulder bag is 37 x 27 x 18 cm which equates to just below 19 litres capacity and is therefore within your rules, but that's clearly bigger than A4 which is 21 x 30 cm.

Will I have a problem with my bag or not, please? The contents are my camera, spare camera battery, two small ( plastic! ) bottles of water, hat in case of rain, notebook and a very small ( fist sized ) pair of binoculars.

Them to me:
I think you will be fine, but please be aware that anything larger will incur longer checks at the gate.

As our site is connected to the national network, these rules have been set by the authorities.

The main thing is that whatever you bring, you can carry it on your back for the entire day.

Like many people I'm travelling from another part of the country (Suffolk), by train (now there's a shock) the afternoon before to Nottingham and staying in a Premier Inn. So how can I take a couple of bits of overnight kit, wash bag, diabetic insulin and tablets, spare emergency food all in a bag the size of an A4 piece of paper?

ah, Peter Mugridge post went up when I was typing mine!! does beg the question why they didn't put "The main thing is that whatever you bring, you can carry it on your back for the entire day", in that email that was sent out. Thanks to Peter for getting some clarification on that.

The timing load of 715 tonnes normally suggests a tamper move. Thanks for looking though!
But Shildon?? If it was coming off a possession, you'd expect the previous Bishop Auckland workings to be cancelled, which they aren't. And it could be the "nearest fit" timings for something out of the ordinary. I'm not convinced either way though!

I’d expect a Tamper to use a class 6 headcode, not a class 0.
Fair points, I’ll keep an eye out if I get the opportunity!

67005? That's at Shildon at the moment and the schedule is for a light DB Cargo light loco.

Seems like the Class 93 cab ride is £93, which is a tour of the cab and a ride up and down twice.
The steam ride is free with 44932 and a Class 37, I'm guessing WCR and probably their stock as well.

The Class 720 is now 720568

There is always the Stasher app - so depending on how far your Premier Inn is, a small about of money to leave whatever items you want at the Premier Inn whilst you visit Litchurch Lane.

Sounds like they could do with one of these pop up temp bag store places. Twickenham has one for fans visiting the Rugby (and no doubt to make sure fans aren’t bringing in less expensive beer than that sold by the stadium either!).
