I'm going on Friday, with a train booked down to Euston at 16:38. Out of curiosity, does anyone think it's worth getting there for when it opens and is there enough to do there for six hours?
Depends on how much of it you're going to want to see, I'd have a look at the site map and exhibits and plan from that. I'm also there on the Friday, but have a hotel the night before and a 6pm return train booked to allow for picking up luggage and general "stuff".

I'm guessing around 2 hour entry queues if you arrive at 10, leaving 4 hours (maybe 5 if they don't kick everyone out?). There's also shuttle buses running from the city centre (I think) that start at 7am, so it's going to be busy quickly.

Are people really expecting to have to queue for around 2 hours for entry? I was expecting it to be busy but hadn’t thought about having to queue for that length of time. I’m going on the Saturday.

Living only around 25 miles away I was planning on getting a bus from home at around 8am, and allowing for a change of bus in Heanor onto the Trent Barton H1 into Derby, I should arrive in Derby at approximately 0945. Then after grabbing something to eat and a 30 minute walk from the city centre arriving just after 1030. I am avoiding travelling by train via Nottingham as I think the trains will be very busy. I don’t really want to have to get the 7am bus!

i am treating this like a music festival rather than a football match for entry - expect it to take some time

D6512 plus 4 Vep approaching Derby via Peartree. Train seems to have had issues and dropped Sarah Siddons off, possibly at Penny Compton

Where are you getting two hour entry queues from?

At the peak entry time (10-11am?), potentially bag checks judging by the size of the event and depending on amount of entry checkpoints (Forgot the word) and the amount of people coming. Its better to be safe then sorry I find with things like this as it means more time in the event which clearly isn't a bad thing!

When I went to the Old Oak Common open day just before it got demolished, I had to queue for about 90 minutes for that. Not due to bag checks or anything, just because there was a physical limit on how many people could be allowed in at any one time. Of all the depot open days I've been to, I think that one is probably the most comparable in terms of site size and attendance numbers.

Is 90018 going to make it? Still being painted at Eastleigh and don’t see any suitable paths out?

If 90018 can’t turn up, can another Freightliner 90 turn up instead?

Where can I find a site map? The Alstom page lists many locos and other stock, but I can't find a map for seeing what is where.

it's for the kiddies! (of all ages!)
They had at least a Ferris wheel if not both at Old Oak Common from memory too. And the Ferris Wheel queues were actually quite long as it offered an unusual viewpoint of the depot.

Having thought more about it 12,500 is perhaps not that large a number. Less than half the number that turn up at nearby Pride Park for a Derby County football match.
I'd have thought you would have got that at the likes of Derby Loco Works /Crewe Works years ago. Certainly felt like that when I was on gate duty at Derby. In reality, I'd expect an initial crowd then more spread out as trains arrive.

On the map, it says booking is essential for the test track and steam train, but I couldn't see it when I scanned the QR code. Am I being dense?

Is anyone aware of any rolling stock moves coming from the North, I’ve not seen any yet?

I think 57604 is also due to make the move from there as well?

Was making a strange noise as it passed Twyford maybe wheelset problem.
If D821 was booked on the SVR convoy it wasn't on it.
D1015 took the D821 the other day
