it's impressive to see how the right wing is so similar on both sides of the atlantic.

The Canadian Tories pioneered the idea of shutting down parliament every time it got a bit inconvenient for the ruling government. Boris Johnson then infamously attempted the same manoeuvre during the Brexit s*show. Now Trump's giving it a go.
Well, actually, King Charles I beat the Canadians to it by several centuries. We know what happened to him.

I wonder how much longer Ms Maxwell has to live.

If she makes a statement under oath that Trump never met her or Epstein (despite all the photos, video and other evidence to the contrary) then maybe she'll be okay for a bit longer. She might even get a pardon from Trump for being a good friend, sorry, total stranger.

Personally I think Epstein did likely kill himself but I obviously don't know. If she suddenly dies, it will look a bit more obvious! Perhaps she needs to come out of prison so it can be a nasty car accident instead...

I think she will lie to get her sentence commuted, and permission to leave the country, once safely in a foreign safe house, she will sell the true story about what went on to Murdoch and her story will be serialised in the Murdoch press, it will expose trump, and the whole DOJ, some of the really powerful people, she will protect, but Trump will be exposed , and his base will turn on him.

They must know she could do this so I do wonder if a nasty accident is more likely because she will always have the ability to reveal the truth one day.

In a similar situation (not that I'm every likely to be) I'd be tempted to have a plan that some form of Wikileaks publication of all the stuff I have available 2 months" after my death, probably hosted in a location (probably a couple) with difficult to apply pressure to from my home country.

* I don't want it as soon as I die, so whoever is out to get me thinks there's no fall out - or if I'm feeling particularly malicious, have something benign be released upon my death so (again) they think is that all.

I find it hard to imagine that The Wall Street Journal haven’t got a bit more up their sleeves.

I think we’re in for a fascinating couple of weeks and I’m starting to wonder if JD Vance might well end up as the big winner out of this because he’s been playing a canny game.

I for one wouldn’t underestimate Vance at the moment.

I won't post them here for obvious reasons but South Park seem to be trying to get sued by Trump with their latest YouTube uploads. I like that Matt and Trey really do not care about any repercussions from their videos!

Matt and Trey skewer everyone, Trump isn't that special.

I think that there are quite a few "squeaky bums" in Washington DC at the moment! :)

Vance is a snake and I'm fairly certain that he wouldn't hesitate to throw the Dear Leader under the bus when the opportunity arises. Having said that, I don't relish the idea that he would become president should The Donald fall by the wayside.

They've gone 'all in' this time and there's no way on earth that Trump isn't going to respond to this, being such a giant man baby.
Quite, there's a massive difference between going after a random celebrity and the unhinged leader of your country that thinks he can do anything with impunity.

MSNBC uploaded a story about it to YT and there is a response from the white house, of course they used a still from the episode of Trump whilst reading out the statement.

Though one of them has now apologised...
Don't think it was a sincere apology!

It was something of a "Father Jack" apology! Video of Father Jack's sarcastic apology in the legendary "Kicking Bishop Brennan Up The Arse" episode of Father Ted:

The Paramount takeover has been approved by the regime and contains a particularly ridiculous stipulation of having an "ombudsman" oversee allegations of "bias" (one wonders how this differs from "political officers" in countries such as China), as well as the usual Trump hallmarks like agreeing to eliminate any DEI related activities.

The FCC on Thursday finally signed off on the marriage of Skydance Media and Paramount Global.

The $8.4 billion deal has faced myriad challenges on its way to the finish line but will be made official in the coming days by the companies. No shareholder vote or other approvals are required. With the FCC’s blessing, the transaction will reshape the media landscape and recast David Ellison, chairman and CEO of the combined company, as a top Hollywood power player.

“Americans no longer trust the legacy national news media to report fully, accurately, and fairly. It is time for a change,” said FCC chair Brendan Carr in a statement. “That is why I welcome Skydance’s commitment to make significant changes at the once storied CBS broadcast network.

South Park's creators just signed a 1.5bn contract with Paramount - hopefully it's iron clad!

Paramount most likely has to pay for the South Park episodes to be made, but it's unlikely that it's obliged to air them.

These kind of comments are nothing short of insensitive, rude, insulting, and grossly offensive to the party involved.

Snakes are beautiful and underappreciated animals and deserve better than to be lumped with a slimy sycophant like JD Vance.

That's a fair point. Perhaps I was being a bit too harsh. I humbly apologise to the snake kingdom! :D

Unfortunately for serpents, their PR started badly back in the garden of Eden.

Unfortunately this has lead to the lumping together of snakes and evil creatures since.

It's taking a bit of time to disassociate the two in the eye of the wider public, however with better PR (and valued allies) the public view is starting to shift slowly.

The Snake Kingdom accepts your wholehearted apology and will not be cancelling you today. :D

It's truly a tragic story, but at least there remains hope for the serpents!

Unlike Trump who is actually a rather hopeless case at this point. If he makes it through his whole presidency it'll be quite a surprise even with the GOP trying to protect him.

The funniest thing is that it was Reagan that essentially allowed the news networks to be as biased as they wanted. The US had a thing called the "fairness doctrine" that required them to show both sides of an argument, and it was dropped after the Democrats realised that it was a very powerful weapon against smaller rural broadcast stations who simply couldn't afford to broadcast their side of an argument, as advertisers would pull the cash.

It had many opponents in recent times among conservatives, so it's absolutely hilarious that Trump's regime is now bringing it back.

I'd be interested to see the policing bill (pun not intended!) for Trump's little jolly. I've just been over to Lossiemouth to pick up a few bits and pieces from the Co-op and both the town and the surrounding roads were absolutely crawling with police cars; some were obviously local (ie Police Scotland), but I spotted one marked car with a west of England registration. There were also some sinister-looking dark coloured vans with blacked-out windows cruising around.

There are no stopping signs along all the roads surrounding RAF Lossiemouth and a complete closure was in place this afternoon, with another closure tomorrow afternoon. I assume the Orange One was flown here and then helicoptered to Aberdeen.

Presumably there was a similar situation at Turnberry.

I wouldn't read too much into the specific police forces.

The Forth Road Bridge was closed on Friday/Saturday due to some Greenpeace protesters, and a lot of the vans around weren't Police Scotland. At Grangemouth we've had loads of Heddlu vans and mostly people are just spotting the officers taking photos of the Kelpies.

Police Scotland is a weird one because it covers a monumentally large geographic area. I mean we have 1 police force covering the whole country compared to Wales which is less than a third of our size and has 4 police forces. The Police Scotland car you see in Edinburgh may have come from Wick or Stornoway.
