I wonder if EES and ETIAS are actually going to be introduced on these new confirmed dates or if it will get pushed back further. The introduction has been delayed and pushed back at least five times so i do not really trust any of these new confirmed dates.
It is such a backwards step to introduce this ETIAS visa. I can understand the EES as this makes keeping records easier. At least with EES they can quickly and easily know how long you have spent (and how many days you have used up) without spending a couple minutes looking through stamps and counting dates. But this ETIAS visa thing is such a backwards step. If i was them i would just introduce EES and scrap the ETIAS plans.
It seems like the whole world is going backwards and making travel more difficult. You used to need visas for so many countries and then more and more have become visa free over the past couple decades and now they are bringing back visas but just calling them a different name. UK ETA, Schengen ETIAS, USA ESTA, Canada ETA, Australia ETA, Australia Evisitor, New Zealand NZETA, South Korea KETA, Kenya ETA, are just some examples. It is certainly not good for tourism as less tourists will visit the Schengen area now that they have the added complexity and cost of getting an ETIAS visa.
Also if you do not have a bank account or you do not have internet access than you are unable to get an ETIAS visa. Your only option will be to go to one of the Schengen countries embassies and apply for a full Schengen tourist visa. But this is far more expensive and far more time consuming. So in my view the ETIAS visa is also rather discriminatory.
