I have tried to book tickets for 22/08 from Liverpool to Milton Keynes but it seems that on that particular day services from Liverpool are calling at Nuneaton. Avanti will book you as far as Nuneaton and then transfer you on to the LNW Crewe to London service. Getting on thar service with suitcases at Nuneaton is a no no so I have booked with LNW changing at Crewe to ensure getting a seat.
That is because of the Stockport blockade.

but connectivity from Liverpool only! Much as I love Liverpool I wish these extra trains home called at Crewe...
They can't, they would clash with the LNWR services and the Holyhead behind them.

The Stockport blockade should not in my opinion affect Liverpool services stopping at Milton Keynes Central but it does look as if Milton Keynes Centrak has been sacrificed for at least that day by Avanti!

It needs to for the timetable to work.

Oh great... not a single one of those seems to call at Crewe! Yet another connectivity option thrown away... (https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/se...25-09-15/0000-2359?stp=WVS&show=all&order=wtt)
Crewe calls are in the alternate Liverpools as I'm sure you know. I think adding a Crewe call to the other Liverpool as well may upset the path too much, there's at least two services each hour which are right behind the Trent Valley Liverpool and I suspect a Crewe stop would impact on those.

Includes direct Evero evening services from Tamworth to Chester/Wrexham/Holyhead!
Already run as well, they aren't the additional services from September.

I haven't used an Avanti 80x, but I have done long journeys on 390s recently and personally I don't have any real criticisms of them. They're nicer than the GWR 80xs, at least.

If the Avanti ones are better than a 390 then they must be pretty good.

Going back to my original post,I have since travelled on the class 807 twice without a seat reservation and had no issue with the guard.
I also noticed that there were a few seats not even reserved!
Surely the seat reservations compulsary on RTT is a mistake?

It's just what the data RTT receives says.

As as been mentioned on other threads, no domestic trains in the UK are actually compulsory reservation except de facto the sleepers.

The only UK train you'll be turned away from without a reservation (rail tours aside) is the Caledonian Sleeper, and probably only then if there's no free seat or cabin.

The "fake compulsory" flag is used so that they can control at an individual level which trains are open for sale, and so they don't sell tickets against trains that are nominally full, creating an expectation of a seat. It's a confusing misuse of the flag but doesn't seem to be going away any time soon unfortunately.

Indeed - and on that note we will bring this one to a close.

thanks everyone.
