SPT Tendered Routes

Yes, it’s becoming increasingly common, especially on one bus contracts. Build the timetable so that one driver can do the whole thing with an appropriately timed break and it becomes very efficient in terms of driver costs.
SPT are desperate to find budget savings, so if you can get maybe £10-15k of the annual cost of 10 such contracts you’ve found over £100k of savings.
Has someone finally realised that throwing endless money on a poorly ran tendered network simply doesn't work and sometimes you have to use logic in which services get funding?

Not half some cuts on there, wonder who Swift travel are
It seems like there will be a lot of cuts. Most services are facing journey reductions and at least the 395 is getting a PVR Reduction.

If I'm correct, Swift Travel is a company that seems to be based out of a house in East Kilbride. They seem to be a relatively new company as I haven't seen any Swift Travel vehicles before.

When I've searched, it shows that a 'Swift Travel & Tours LTD' company (which VSC376 has linked to their companies house above)

Throwing the search to the Traffic Commissioners operators licence search shows that 'Swift Travel & Tours LTD' trade as 'Todds Travel' (https://www.vehicle-operator-licensing.service.gov.uk/view-details/licence/557584). They only have 2 discs though and the depot is a farm in Rutherglen so they are going to have to get more discs quickly to run both of their tender wins.

They will definitely need more than 2 discs to run both of the tenders. The 46 and the 374 both currently have a PVR of 2 so if they don't get more discs then they will have no spare vehicles.

I wonder what the major cuts are to service 310? since that is saving a hell of a lot of money? Another interesting point is JMB buses have once again bided for the Cumbernauld - Monklands bus. Are Mcgill/Midland bluebird getting the SPT No72 so they can combine it with the No35?

I think the 310 will only need 1 vehicle instead of 2 as the 310 will only be going between Marnoch and Broomhouse which takes about 35 mins on the current timetable. The service will have the same frequency but Shettleston, Sandyhills & Mount Vernon at one end and Moodiesburn on the other end will no longer be served by the 310.

According to the documents from January, the 72/178/178A/178B will be going to McGill's (It didn't say Midland Bluebird but it would make sense). It stated that "Optional timetable offering enhanced journey extensions between Kirkintilloch, Kilsyth, Banton and Falkirk" so I'm guessing it will probably be the 72 that will be combined with the 35.

The 46 and 374 don’t run at the same time, so the buses will work the 374 during the day then move on to the 46 in the evening.

They do indeed run at different times. At the moment Todd's Travel (according to their website and google maps) have 2 16 seater Ford Transit minibuses. I think they will need to get more discs and get some other vehicles to operate the 46 and 374.

Seems we have another SPT tender becoming commercial.

JMB Travel’s 251 (Wishaw General - Larkhall) is to be run commercially from the 13th July. Unlike the other news coming out about it saying it’ll be ran by ARG Travel.

Surly JMB not going to operate the full service commercially? I dare say the last 3 journey during the week and Sunday service will be put back out to tender.

Does anyone know what’s happening with the Monday - Friday day time 317 Hamilton - Clyde Valley - Lanark from 14/07/25? SPT timetables shows only Stuarts Coach’s Monday - Friday Evenings and Saturday & Sunday day time. Nothing showing on traveline. Is someone going to operate it commercially but not updated it on traveline?

Stuarts are tunning a 17 service every hour and a half commercially

The timetable for the no17 is roughly the same as the current daytime 317, and is on the Companies Facebook page. Its also noted that service 135 the Lanark local is being completely withdrawn with no replacement, is this correct?

I remember back in the day New Lanark used to get a lot of SPT advertising as a destination to visit, along with the likes of Mount Stuart on Bute and Benmore Botanic Gardens. I can't remember if there was a specific ticket that included train to Lanark then bus to New Lanark, or if it was just advertising the old Daytripper ticket. I haven't seen advertising like that in a long time though.

Were now seeing what happens after years of incompetents and happily wasting a lot of public money up the wall for very little gain. SPT should be ashamed of themselves for getting themselves into this situation, many of us have highlighted waste etc and SPT carry on but now the chicken are coming home to roost and were now seeing cut's going well beyond getting rid of the waste but effecting actually passengers.

Somehow SPT and the council believe there should be running the bus services????

I couldn't agree more if I tried. Sadly so much low hanging fruit though that SPT won't take advantage of despite the quite large savings they could make (or better use resources). JMB 19A, McGills 153. The Croy/Cumbernauld network which makes zero sense because it's just shed loads of very infrequent routes which apparently make up some kind of logical service.

Today (Saturday 12th July) is the last day of ARG Travel operating the 395 East Kilbride/Uplawmoor service. From Monday 14th July Shuttle Buses Ltd take over - with a reduced timetable, the Neilston terminators (themselves a previous reduction in the service through to Uplawmoor) withdrawn.

Does the 0835 short run to Hairmyres then just run empty back to Uplawmoor to form the 0940 departure from there? It's an odd timetable...

Can't answer your question but it certainly is an odd timetable! The last departure from Uplawmoor is, unbelievably, at 1540, despite there being two later arrivals there, at 1707 and 1837. Shuttle Buses HQ is show as Kilwinning, is this perhaps where the buses come from and return to, hence the timetable?

(Uplawmoor is a good example of the problems of rural public transport provision; There are no shops in the village, at all, most if not all people living there will have a car, so would not use the bus; Therefore the bus service is dreadful! Things were better when the village had two railway stations....)

Not sure it is an odd timetable. Frequency is every 90 minutes and requires 2 buses. If there was a 1710 ex Uplawmoor presumably there would need to be an 1840 ex East Kilbride. Is there likely to be any need for such journeys? My instinct would be virtually zero.

Perhaps not through to East Kilbride, but at the very least those last two arrivals at Uplawmoor could return to Neilston, or Barrhead, thus providing connections into train and other bus services. One would think that as SPT subsidise the service they would consider such things!
