According to journeycheck, there are 5 755 diagrams affected by faults today. These all seem to be 755/4s (and I've seen quite a short forms down to 3 coaches recently)
What's going on? These trains are usually really reliable and I've never seen this many faults at once - usually I see one every few weeks max
The first train from Ipswich to Cambridge is terminating and restarting at Bury St Edmunds.
The second train from Ipswich to Cambridge and the first once from Norwich to Cambridge are both cancelled, with the 0626 BSE-IPS also cancelled and the 0536 NRW-LWT leaving Norwich 23 mins late due to a train fault

Both my 755/4s have had an engine isolated today. Also stepping up at Norwich. Possibly heat related faults on the others although nothing been relayed to us from Stadler.

Do they tend to give more information usually or will it have to remain speculation?

Sometimes but only if it’s a major problem. Thankfully with such excellent reliability those times have been very few and far between. This week just appears to be a blip. Not heard any messroom gossip either that points to anything else.

Bit of a bump - but I've seen a few 755s (and some 745s) heading west on the North London Line from Stratford. I'm sure they're going somewhere as ECS moves, but what are they heading off for?

Probably to a depot with a wheel lathe (to get the wheels back to the correct profile).

Next time you see one, look up the working on RTT and see where it's headed and started from.

Thanks to mods for reopening this thread.

I noted on New Year's Eve - last Wednesday - that 755328 has returned to traffic - https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:P49716/2025-12-31/detailed

Was this the unit's first day back or has it been around for some days unnoticed?
It was on the 07:14 Sheringham to Nowich on 30/12/25 https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:P49388/2025-12-30/detailed#allox_id=0 seen by myself waiting time at Sheringham.

Furthermore there have been three 11-car 755 consists out on the GEML today running between Liverpool Street and Norwich covering for unavailable 745's. That's nine units!!
Unit 328 was among them.

Just out of interest, do they ever run 3 x 755/4's, e.g 12 car to match a 745? Or does a 3 x 4 exceed a length constraint.

No, as you state there is a length constraint.
Thanks. It seemed the logical explanation for 11 cars. Of course if a /3 isn't available it means a short formed 8 car formation, as I have personally experienced in the past. That was cosy from the Street

I always found that so many piled into the rear and middle units rather than walking further and no matter how many announcements were made were still reluctant to get out and walk forward.

Oh yes, always worth walking to the first unit ( or first two cars of a 745). I am too old to stand to Colchester now

3x 4 car is permitted but I believe the triple BMU sets normally use an 11 car road at Crown Point Depot so its very rare, I'm only aware of it having happened during testing.

Only down side is that the trolley will be in the middle 755 from Liverpool St only moving to the front AFTER Colchester.

Well as I get off at Colchester, I would buy before boarding if I wanted a drink or as a cheapskate, wait until I got home!

Not quite the same thing but I'm 99% sure there used to be an evening ECS from Ipswich back to Norwich which ferried an amalgamation of branchline units back to Crown Point as 3*4/755

EDIT: I think the working in question is 5P84 23+46 Ipswich - Crown Point. seems to have been mostly 11s but I'm sure I've seen it as a 12 when a 4car ended up on the Felixstowe branch.
