Well, the race is on this coming Sunday. There will no doubt be the usual "hype" about British drivers in the British Grand Prix from the media, with hopes of a British driver crossing the chequered flag.

I am sure the more considered opinions of forum members will come to the fore. In the two free practice sessions on Friday, in WET conditions, Webber in the first session and Massa in the second sesion were quickest.

This whole hot blown diffuser episode has caused quite a lot of arguments. I saw Horner and Whitmarsh verbally butting heads at a press conference yesterday. Renault engined cars seem to benefit from a different amount of throttle on such diffusers. It is a strange time to impose a strange limitation to some teams and not others.

Well at least the 'hype' is good news for our local team, Red Bull. Whilst it might not be to your taste, at least it's raising the profile of the company and its workers.

Remember, not all Red Bull is about Horner, Newey, Vettel or Webber. There is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes at their HQ and I'm sure the many employees who work there will be glad of the 'hype' surrounding the British GP.

Not really supprised by the quili finishing. But well done for that new brit in the force India getting 6th.

But can guess the finish though :/ Just hope that it will rain heavy tomorrow really.

No, but still extremely disappointed. Lewis Hamilton really ought to have done better on home turf. Am I the only one to think that he is starting to look more and more like a one-season (OK, maybe 2 at a push) wonder?

I think you'll find that it's down to the car Hamilton has under him this season. The McLaren just isn't quite there yet in terms of competing with Red Bull. Hamilton's frustration at the lack of the McLaren's competitiveness, particularly in qualifying, coupled with some poorly executed manoeuvres hasn't helped him either.

I'm fairly certain if Lewis was in a Red Bull at the moment you wouldn't be thinking of him as a 'one-season' wonder.

Besides in four completed seasons he's come 2nd, 1st, 5th and 4th in the World Drivers Championship.

And for the record I'm not a Lewis fanboy. I cheer on Jenson cos he's a Somerset lad!

BTCC is the best thing out there at the moment, 6 (?) hours of proper racing on a Sunday, Even if it involves constant moaning from Plato

Shame that it doesnt get as much coverage as it deserves :cry:



F1 is just boring now, We`ve gone back to the Schumacher years except with Vettel this time

Good grief! I know that most of us knew there wouldn't be a British winner but I didn't expect McLaren to balls it up so badly. Button must be fuming......

LAP 39: In comes Alonso. Dream pit stop. In comes Button. Just as good. But what's this... Button's left a wheel nut in the pit lane... "front left isn't on guys," he says on the team radio. It's actually his front right. BUTTON IS OUT OF THE BRITISH GRAND PRIX.

A good race IMO, much better than Valencia in terms of predictability and drama. Felt enormously sorry for Button, but then again, stuff happens.
Hamilton did well fighting back from 10th to claim 4th and I felt that he persevered well despite a mix-up with the strategy concerning fuel towards the end of the race, although that last move on Massa was bold and it did make contact.
There was also a good duel between him and Alonso. Any good drama is better than Vettel leading straight out of the blocks to the end without anyone challenging him.


A deserved victory for Ferrari as well who are the shadow of the team they used to be and every victory for them, I think, is a special one. Well done Fernando.

It slightly pains me to say it, but "Well done Alonso". At this stage of the season I'm just happy that it's anyone but Vettel on the top step of the podium.

Gotta feel for Webber as well. Being told, yet again, not to race his team-mate. I couldn't give a stuff about, 'what's best for the team' which was Red Bull boss Christian Horner's take on the team order given to Webber. I want to see racing drivers race.

I thought Alonso drove a very good race and was a deserved winner.

I am not at all happy that with Red Bull, as their team orders seemed to prevail over the last two laps, to enable Vettel to finish ahead of Webber. It was a very strange interview that Christian Horner of Red Bull held with the TV crew after the race, with references to the greater good of "the team". ( I had better not say any more on that matter). Vettel did have one very poor pit stop due to a mistake with the mechanics, when he came into the pits in front of Alonso, then lost a position as a result of a team mistake.

Hamilton had a real fight on the last lap to stay ahead of Massa, leading to Massa over-doing things on the last corner and going far too wide. He has to learn that you have to conserve BOTH tyres and fuel...not just any one of the two.

To be fair, it may not have completely been Hamilton's fault. Without a proper practice session on the Friday, it would have been a little tricky to determine exact fuel requirements for the race, especially as the rules to do with the diffusers were seemingly being changed every 5 minutes!

Felt very sorry for Button. If he had come out ahead of Webber the race could have panned out very differently.

You have to feel for Mark Webber. It does sound as if they're favoured towards Vettel and, just listening to the F1 Forum just now, it wouldn't have been necessary to deliberately keep Webber back as Vettel is so far ahead in the championship standings, the end result would've been exactly the same had Webber taken 2nd.

I wouldn't be surprised if Webber seriously keeps his options open for his future career with Red Bull.

Max. this is not the first time when Hamilton has been warned over his team radio (that we seem to be able to hear these days) that he needs to be careful in terms of tyres or fuel. Youthful exhurberance must be subjugated to a more mature driving skill technique. Prost and Senna were masters of this technique.

Youthful exuberance must be balanced with team strategy. It sounded as if the strategy fell short of what both them and Hamilton expected from the race, leading him to drive economically and lose 1 place to Webber who was on a better strategy overall.

True, although it seems McLaren fell rather short on their strategy/overall teamwork today. Hamilton did well to even finish 4th.

F1 these days it is always constructors championship first and drivers championship second, hence the Red Bull team orders. I don't agree with it but that is the way it currently is.

At least Vettel didn't win. But feel most sorry for Paul Di-Resta though after that terrible pitstop mess up though. Qualifed in 6th, only dropped to 7th and stayed their till the pits.

Also feel sorry for Button but not as much as the new comer.

I agree with you, He did quite well in the free practice and to have qualified 6th on the grid was a remarkable achievement considering the experianced Formula 1 drivers were qualifying in the same condirions.

He seems to have a good future in the sport.
