Hi all,

I received a NIP from GTR for travelling without a valid ticket. The date of the letter was 12th May but I didn't receive this until 16th. Due to this oversight, I had responded to this today thinking the deadline was a few days away but the 14 days is actually today. This means that it won't get received until Wednesday due to the Bank Holiday. This was a major error on my part but now I can very stressed that this will now get taken to court.

I have emailed my response to GTR just to clarify that I do want to engage but I know they don't accept this and it has to be posted.

Please could someone advise, I can't stop worrying about this.

Thanks

I can't guarantee this, but I suspect GTR will be OK with the slightly belated response. Postal delays are common and a 2 week turnaround may not work for anyone away from college (etc). So at this stage I would not be worrying, but yes, it's best to attend to these sorts of things in a timely manner, going forward.

GTR know that the post isn't 100% reliable at the moment, plus we've also had a Bank Holiday. I highly doubt it will adversely impact the chances of a favourable outcome.

Thank you, that is reassuring to hear. Do they tend to respond fairly quickly at this stage or does it vary?

It does vary. GTR aren't too bad, faster than some other TOC. I would expect 2-3 weeks, but it could be 2-3 months. So long as they have received your letter then it's just a waiting game.

If it is of any use to anyone, I just received a letter agreeing an out of court settlement for £68 - very relieved!

Thanks for letting us know, that is towards the lower end of the cases that are presented here.
