Morning all,

As discussed on a separate thread I’ve recently moved into my first solo flat (woohoo!) and I now take a Thameslink Service from outside Dartford into Central London. This journey involves passing through the old King’s Cross Thameslink station. Although I caught a good video on my phone, that sounds very atmospheric with headphones, I was just curious what it the station would look like from a driver’s POV? I wasn’t able to find a video with a quick Google search but thought if anyone knew of such a video, it would be here.

Recently there was a Branch Line Society tour of the old King’s Cross Thameslink station. There are some pictures on flickr here:

Branch Line Society tour of the closed King's Cross Thameslink station on Pentonville Road, as well as the old railway tunnels that connected up to now-Thameslink known as York Road and Maiden Lane.

Thank you. Wonderful photos. Seems a shame the station isn't used as intended or that it isn't turned into something else.

It had to be replaced because it was found to be completely impossible to alter it for the intended Thameslink 12 car trains, although I think the northbound platform, which is very close to the LU tracks at its south end, was always too narrow anyway for modern safety standards.

There’s a cab ride video of the full route here, the disused Thameslink station can be found at 1h 8m 20s:

(The 7 year old video covers the entire route from Brighton to Bedford, there is no commentary or closed captions.)

Great photos / video / memories here. I used to stand down that narrow end of the northbound platform each morning (20+ years ago) to catch my train to work at Elstree & Borehamwood. As @swt_passenger says, super narrow down there!

Also: just remembered the temporary set up / terminus on the east side of St. Pancras while they worked on the Kings Cross Thameslink <> Blackfriars section. Hard to believe it was that long ago now -- I must be getting old!
