I'm working in Newcastle today, and I found one of the Autotrader car hunt cars. 1/1000 chance of winning a car!
(Actually I believe it's better than 1/1000 - if people find multiple cars, they may well decide to keep them all and not distribute between friends etc; and it's a limit of 1 entry per person regardless of how many cars you find).
It was quite funny though - I was out and about at 8am and found two cars, then as I was walking to the coworking space for the day, I saw lots of people peering round the back of statues or behind walls or in hedges, and some people even openly talking about where they think they can find one. It's like that time I went to a tech conference in Hanover about 10 years ago, and at the interval going to find a geocache at the conference venue, only to see a dozen other people all staring at their phones and turning around in funny directions, then we all triangulated onto this one position and found the cache as a collective.
Made me chuckle to myself a bit this morning!

If you win, I'm sure you will be really happy, especially as I see the new car prize is worth over £65,000!
Yeah and they give you £1200(?) towards insurance costs!
I've never owned an EV but in the (very unlikely) event I win, I do think I'd consider the switch.

My Wifes got a new hybrid which is tolerable (just) but winning one would be the only way i'd ever have one.

I checked my account with Southern Water and found that they have credited me with £250. This is compensation for the interruption to the water supply in May 2024 which lasted several days. They had previously said that compensation would not be payable but following representations by the MP and the local Council Southern Water changed their minds.

I hadn't heard of that. I just looked it up - and it seems those 1000 toy cars are hidden in only ten UK cities. That scuppers those of us living in southern counties and eastern counties.
Stuff it, I'll "sweat" my fossil burner for one more year...

I love the back-and-forth "conversation" that's a sure sign of spring. Even with the window slightly ajar my ears picked up the chatter. Give it another hour and everything else will be drowned out by the noisy gows (gulls)...

Yeah. They had them in Edinburgh and Glasgow and I was planning on heading out to one of them to find one as I live in Fife, and probably just work from town for the day. In the end was swamped with work. They're only running these hunts on weekdays, so you're also kinda scuppered if you work from say 8:30am Mon-Fri.
There's only so much they can do I suppose though, and it's a free entry situation, so can't complain really!

I had one having a bath in my garden water bowl earlier this week. Many birds visit the bathtub in summer, but never this early.Blackbirds!

I reached Manchester Piccadilly to find that my 12 30 to Cardiff (1V42) was formed of 67 014 & mark 4 set HD 01. Not that I need it for haulage, but there's always that nagging doubt that it may have been subbed by a 197....or even worse, a 158, 153 or 150. Still going well through Craven Arms!

Finding some very good pubs in Salisbury including one with a cat (Duke of York).
Hearing the UK Eurovision song. Within the first few seconds I thought ‘oh my word, horrendous’ but I persevered and listened to the entire song. It’s amazing. It’s a political competition so it won’t do well, but it’s a banging effort.

I'm hoping that the diplomacy from Starmer has won us a few friends and votes!
USA should enter (the Aussies do!) so we can give them nul points. Canada and Ukraine...have twelve!
But what made me happy today was I was in a bit of form playing pool, won 6 lost 1. Beat my nemesis twice!

Being with my beautiful pets - 2 dogs (11.5 year old terriers) and my 2 retired/rescue horses (One 16.1 hand cob who got arthritis in his early years - he is 23 now, one 14.1 hand, RSPCA rescue Welsh pony who was used for breeding - she is 26). They ground me and make me smile.

I love your story. I collect 78s so own some Jack Hylton ones. He was a very good band leader back in the day.A slightly strange one, perhaps - but it made me happy. I present a radio show on a community radio station (as opposed to presenting a radio show on a banana) and just after my show, the station plays a news programme called Democracy Now! which is free to community stations around the world I believe. It's normally quite simple - fade out my playing, fade up the news - but today I faded up... nothing. The ticking counter got down to 00:00 and then there was nothing on the air! This was a bit strange but to cut a long story short, the thing that made me happy was the slightly panicked but also quite enjoyable experience of then having to work out what on earth to do. In the end Spotify came to the rescue - I played a few tracks on that, between each I told the listener what was going on, and then finally we got it working again. Felt a little bit like the early days of broadcasting that I've read about, really. All good fun but I do wonder if anyone tuned in expecting the news and then got Jack Hylton instead...!

As a listener, I like it when things don't go according to plan.
Earlier today I was watching part of the BBC video stream on the Eurostar disruption.
They were broadcasting older two way interviews with some correspondents, whilst showing a live view from inside St Pancras, and outside Gard du Nore in Paris.
Suddenly the St Pancras video faded down and you got an Associated Foreign Press information screen, complete with a phone number and e-mail address.
Strongly suspecting this wasn't ment for public broadcast, I took a screenshot. That made me happy. It was indeed not meant for public broadcast as far as I could gather.
Later I had to pop into the office to do some historical research on some addresses. I work in Street Naming and Numbering. This involved checking some old electoral registers. I rather enjoyed that.
Then I saw the Bob Dylan biopic, A Cpmplete Unknown. Finally I did a site visit for work, as i ran out of time before the film started, so a very enjoyable day all round that made me very happy.

Being someone who last had a BMI below 25 when Gordon Brown was PM, I'm pleased to report I need to buy a new belt. The one I bought 7 or 8 years ago is now a little too loose even on it's tightest hole.
I'm happy today as I've just made a top up donation to my favourite charity the RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) whose volunteers do such a great job all year, every year.
As I'm a UK tax payer, I also ticked the Gift Aid box so they get another 25% on top of my donation - that has to make it a VERY good day today.
(Since founded in 1824, the RNLI have saved over 146,000 lives. The charity is not supported by government in any way).

Ordered some very expensive posh Hotel Chocolat chocolates on Amazon as a gift for someone, they ended up sending completely the wrong ones
Went through their returns bot which was a bit of a faff as with it being food the item is excluded from the usual returns policy but eventually I clicked enough options for them to offer a replacement or refund, decided they could have another go and they sent out a replacement (which luckily was correct this time!), but advised me I could keep the original item and do whatever I want with it at no charge
Looks like I've sorted out my Mum's birthday present without really trying this year
