How come the big boxes aren't required for the 156s?The large blue cabinets contain all the electronic bits for the digital train. There's quite a bit in there!
Because there is an unused cupboard at the intermediate end of one vehicle that now houses all the stuff (it's locked via security key). How come the big boxes aren't required for the 156s?
Should be 156463.05/02 5H70 1455 Heaton - Wolverton Works

Half of 156420 reported today on a low loader on the M74, heading back to Heaton presumably!Thank you diligentdave for the update
323242 has gone in323207 returning to Wolverton today.
On hold as part of a proposed wider package of mods.Does anyone know how the modifications to the internal door controls in the Class 333 toilets are coming along, if they are?
The mechanism has gone a bit out of calibration so is detecting an obstacle where there isn't one. 195/331s do a similar thing. It just needs the door setting up again but depends if anyone has noticed it or bothered reporting it.The door on 333003 seems to be misbehaving, i.e. when you press the door close button it suddenly reopens when it finishes closing instead of locking, which meant I had to hold the door shut until it locked.
158755 was in passenger service on the 14th and 15thOn hold as part of a proposed wider package of mods.

Just noted there is a 5N31 is for Saturday from Wolverton to Newton Heath and a 5H71 return. So one coming back this Saturday by the looks of it.
Still being used as a training unit at Wigan.Anyone know what’s happened to 323237?
Was wondering when someone would mention thisThe CAF trains have more new voices, counted 3 on my 331, one for the next stop is Leeds, another Scottish sounding voice for keep your luggage with you and a 3rd voice apologising for the delay, all automated

Yeah I've heard a myriad of new voices travelling from Manchester to Liverpool yesterday evening. It just feels like a right mess. I'm half-tempted to send over samples of my own voice announcements just to further add to confusion as it feels a little bit like a free for all now.The CAF trains have more new voices, counted 3 on my 331, one for the next stop is Leeds, another Scottish sounding voice for keep your luggage with you and a 3rd voice apologising for the delay, all automated

DB ESG has announced that they have won the contract for the turnkey materials supply and installation of the upgrades to the Passenger Information Screens and Energy Metering on Northern Class 333s.
16 Class 333 EMUs will be upgraded at Northern’s Skipton Sidings Facility.
Each unit will be completed in three days, thanks to DB’s experience.
It is expected the work will be finished by June 2025.
What's "energy metering" in this context?![]()

This upgrade has been a long time in the coming.
sadlyWhat's "energy metering" in this context?
This is likely an end to "Welcome to the Skipton train!" and the introduction of much more waffle that the current system isn't capable of saying, e.g. don't forget your head, rain is wet etc?
Very soon I would think.Any idea about when this work is expected to start?
Knowing Northern's habits of PIS, probably TrainFX. But we'll see when it happens. Will the new PIS be Train fx, or will it be a completley different system?
I'm sure there'll still be some units that'll have them as it's end of June they'll all be done.sadly. I hope i can get one to Doncaster before the old announcements go
Absolutely, I will be monitoring very closely and when an opportunity comes up, I'm going for it no matter what it takes.I very much doubt that all 16 will be done in 2 months, that's 2 a week. As soon as they're diagrammed on the Doncaster line get them ticked off as it'll get harder as more units are converted
