My experience suggests that the more you seek out and embrace happiness, the more happiness comes to you.

For me, this has been a valuable lesson learnt after some mental health issues in the past and I hope my positive thought is of value to at least one person on this thread.

If it stays dry over the next 2/3 days I’ll probably give the lawn its first light cut of the year. This always makes me think spring is here.
As hoped, I gave the lawns their first haircut of the year. Just a trim but they look much neater.

Yesterday, after the early morning mist lifted, I spent an enjoyable few hours aerating the lawn with a fork. The ground was basically almost waterlogged but now that the temperature has risen and it is meteorological spring I was really happy to be out there doing it and feeling the warmth of the sun.

What a beautiful sunset. And great to see the hovercraft - I was last on that service to the island about 40 years ago... thinking about my holiday there at that time is making me smile.

The weather this morning here in deepest darkest Devon has made me particularly happy. I'm wondering where I've left my sunglasses!

Another 25 mile cycle ride, cloudless sky with little wind. Temperature only indicated 10degC but it felt much warmer, probably 11 or 12 :D

Indeed, initially a cloudy day was forecast and yet here I am sat in a sunny beer garden with friends. Wonderful!

That's the thing with the UK. After a dull, cold, wet, dreary winter, the first (less cold) sunny, cloudless sky day, everything (nearly) in the world is wonderful.

Woke up this morning to find quite a bit of condensation on the inside of my windows (double glazed but obviously not very effective). So for the first time my recently bought Karcher window vacuum (other brands are available as they say on the BBC!) was put to good use and in a couple of minutes all the condensation was gone. Good start to the day and made me happy :)

We use one of those as well. Fortunately most of our condensation occurs on the outside. If we didn’t use it, it would be lunchtime before we’d see out of the window :)

Cheery guard on Transpenine Express today

"Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen we have some revenue inspectors on board this service so please have tickets ready for inspection, don't worry we've fed and watered them" :D

Condensation on the outside? I must admit I've never heard of that before. I've just Googled it and it seems to tell me that it is a sign of good window performance - is that correct?

The sunshine these last few days has been phenomenally enjoyable, and there have been some nice trains to watch too over the weekend :)

Saw a hedgehog in the garden last night, first of the year. Did have to put the terrier off the scent mind as she hasn't seen one before!

Wondering if I should make a feeding box for them which they can only enter from the opposite side of the hole in the neighbour's fence.

I can't recall the last time I saw a hedgehog - as you wrote it is your "first of the year" does this mean you are fortunate enough to see them more than once a year?

In our garden I'd say I see around half a dozen a year. We are fortunate that we have woodland at one end of the garden, and our next door neighbour is a recluse who has left her garden unattended for over a decade, so it's got plenty of decent habitat for the hogs. Maybe should invest in a wildlife cam for the garden (though we are moving soon to somewhere I expect won't have nearly as much wildlife coming in).

Seabrooks have (unfortunately only temporarily) reintroduced their pickled onion flavour crisps. They are absolutely wonderful

Going through the addresses mentioned in my parents' old diaries from the 50s, 60s and 70s and looking them up on Google Maps all these decades later; putting a house to the names I half-remember from away back then. Almost all are still extant; with only two (so far) having succumbed to new housing developments.

Mostly Glasgow-ish. Mostly.
With spring arriving I've been looking at the calendar today and can sense my travel opportunities for the year opening up. Things to plan, things to look forward to, new places to visit, distinct avoidance of all things US from July onwards.

That and I'm putting my place in London on the market this week. Ready to lose my remaining ties to Dahn Sarf.

Years best cycle ride today, 35 miles. Sunny, blue sky, mild temperature.
Even better is that I can now have a few pints tonight with a clear conscience in the knowledge I’ve earned it.

Note: I would have had the pints anyway, but all he better when you’ve worked for it…. :)

I live within walking distance of Guildford Cathedral. I toiled up the steps this afternoon to give myself the pleasure of sitting on one of the benches outside the caff in the afternoon sun. They're set in recesses, so out of any annoying breeze, and perfect for twenty or so minutes of absolutely nothing. That's happy for me.

Glad you enjoyed that. Simple things really do work, don't they. Sometimes I feel people can be too focused on major events in their lives to make them happy. I'm reminded of the song from the Jungle Book film -

"Look for the bare necessities
The simple bare necessities
Forget about your worries and your strife"
