Put in gets Ukrain, Trump gets Greenland, Israel takes Gaza whilst China gets Tiwan. Anyond who lives in these countries and does not want to live under the new government can be resettled and paid compensation.

Great idea! By the same logic the UK should get the whole island of Ireland back, and some of Northern France.... and perhaps even the USA :D

We will need an assurance that once they have been granted these concessions they will be satisfied and not make any more requests.
This won't work. If you give in to people like Putin they'll be back wanting more and any "assurances" won't be worth the paper they're printed on.

With adequate compensation and resettlement this could work and be beneficial to all. Even those in the countries taken over.
Where do you propose that these resettled people go, exactly?

I just wish more people could see Trump for what he is. A man who talks common sense and is solving the worlds problems by making the big decisions even when they are hard. He has no need to involve himself in saving western civilisation but has chosen to do so as he wants to save us from ourselves.
I've just had to check my calendar to make sure that it wasn't April 1st. I also wish more people would see Trump for what he is, but not in the same way you do. At this rate he'll be destroying western civilisation.

What form of assurance would be ok? A letter from Putin saying he promises not to be a naughty boy again?

If I lived in America I would be voting for Trump but I know not everyone shares the same view or sees what he is trying to do in rhe same light.

Time will tell how things turn out.

My goodness. I've seen some absolute nonsense on this forum before but I genuinely believe this might be the worst.

Let me guess, if Romania doesn't comply Trump will impose tariffs on them, and/or allow Russia to invade them without resistance:

So not being a paedophile is now 'woke'?
By any chance have Trump and Musk spent time on Epstein Island?

The needs of the greater world must overrule a few minor territory disputes if our PM is to get a promise of peace in our time.
Would you also say that if it was your neck on the line?

If Hitler takes Czechoslovakia, he will be happy and won't invade Poland.

Generally, when politicians talk about "tough decisions", it's because they've run out of ideas.

You didn't answer my question about where the displaced people will go. You've suggested that they vacate their homelands "with compensation". We all know that won't happen - ask the people of Palestine. Who is going to pay that compensation? Which other countries are going to accept the millions of refugees that would result from the ethnic cleansing, er, resettlement that you propose? I'm willing to bet a fair chunk of money that you wouldn't want them here.

Honestly curious why. Tbf that curiosity is mostly based on trying to understand..

- why would anyone vote to make themselves poorer while the richer are made far richer?
- why would anyone vote to give themselves far fewer civil rights?
- why would anyone wish to live under an authoritarian regime that actively strives to make mugs out of its most ardent supporters?

Is fifty years ago enough of a setting for your US Wayback Machine? Please help it make sense.

A man who wants Ukraines minerals (by negotiating purely with Putin) and a man who wants to create Costa Del Gaza (US owned) minus its population, and……….

I never thought I’d need a Mel Brooks lyric in this discussion, but this seems perfect:

Every day, I'm out there trying to make the world safe. For Germany. I don't want war. All I want is peace. Peace. Peace!

A little piece of Poland, A little piece of France, A little piece of Portugal, And Austria perchance, A little slice of Turkey, And all that that entails, Und then a piece of England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales...
(Mel Brooks - To Be Or Not To Be. 1983)

30 September 1938:

The settlement of the Czechoslovakian problem, which has now been achieved is, in my view, only the prelude to a larger settlement in which all Europe may find peace. This morning I had another talk with the German Chancellor, Herr Hitler, and here is the paper which bears his name upon it as well as mine

My goodness. This is such a nonsensical view that reading it has turned the adverts on my tablet into German ones.

Have you ever read a history book? European history from the early to mid 1900's would be a good start.

I just wish more people could see Trump for what he is.

Me too...

A man who talks common sense and is solving the worlds problems by making the big decisions even when they are hard. He has no need to involve himself in saving western civilisation but has chosen to do so as he wants to save us from ourselves.

We need saving from people like Donald Trump, lifetime swindlers, liars and grifters. People who use their inherited wealth and influence to avoid the repercussions of their behaviour that would catch up on the likes of you and I. People who despite their privilege, gas-light others into thinking they are one of their own.

Trump doesn't talk common sense. He talks easy solutions. He doesn't make the big decisions, he makes the easy ones. He sees every problem as a zero-sum game, and opts for the short term, easy answer. If you think the Gaza situation will be solved simply by removing the Palestinians and moving in a load of wealthy Americans, then I've got a bridge to sell you. If you think the Ukraine situation will be solved simply by removing the Ukrainians and giving the land to a load of Russians, then I've got a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow for you too. I guess we can probably solve the Greenland problem by removing all the locals and moving in some Americans too?

Whilst I don’t agree with Donald Trump, and wouldn’t have voted for him if I’d had a vote, it’s wise not to forget that millions of voters did vote for him, and I don’t buy into the idea that they’re all misguided fools.

They voted from a USA point of view. It’s the rest of the world that has the bigger concerns about the global ramifications of this carpet bagger’s car crash.

In their system with only two parties, I suspect Trump collected a load of "anti-government" voters who would have voted for whoever the main alternative was. The reverse was by all likelihood true in 2020. What the US needs, like the UK, is better systems of voting and government structure to allow more choice, collaboration and representation.

And almost certainly millions more voted against Kamala Harris.

Would they have done so if they had known what was going to happen, and is starting to happen now?

Some wouldn't, others may come around to their own conclusions in time once the impact of their vote impacts them personally. And we're not talking about the mere price of eggs here.

Isn't Trump doing pretty much what he said he would during the campaign? Certainly he's been big on tariffs for ages.

Yes up to a point, although he disowned "project 25" which now seems to be going ahead, and he's backtracking on cutting prices for consumers. And I don't think annexing territory got mentioned much either. But some may have voted for the promised actions on things like tariffs and immigration without understanding the consequences for people like them.

I think some sacrifices need to be made.

Put in gets Ukrain, Trump gets Greenland, Israel takes Gaza whilst China gets Tiwan. Anyond who lives in these countries and does not want to live under the new government can be resettled and paid compensation.

By doing this everyone wins. Those impacted in the countries in question will be better off with more money whilst in the long run and the world powers will be happy and stable.

If we don't appease them then we run the risk of economic misery and even war.

I feel the only response I can give is a smiley, as clearly you had to be joking.

Ironically, a lot of them have since been rounded up for deportation. Guess they didn't think they were going have their face eaten.

Elon and Donald are both clear narcissists but right now I think each of them think they're playing the other. Trump can get Elon to do all the dirty work, while Elon is likely getting his hooks into ALL the personal data on every American and will be in a position to install his software, win all the contracts and potentially take over the whole country - with the checks and balances all eradicated.

Elon technically can't be President, but there isn't likely to be a USA in its current form for very long with the way things are going. I somewhat doubt most of the voters ever thought this is what they were going to get.

What's already happening is Trump voters are realising they were played and are going to their representatives and kicking off, and the Republicans are going to be worried about their future come the mid-terms. Will they 'grow some' to stand up to Trump or just go along with it and find themselves booted out?

The ones who have been taken by ICE are certainly likely to have not fully understood things. A classic example of F around and find out.

It finally occurred to me that I wonder if Trump has only gone full-on with the Russia negotiation now because this is his latest distraction from domestic issues. The price of eggs going up (despite being the flagship example of his grocery reduction pledge), the DOGE madness and firing nuclear staff debacle, to name a few, are not getting as much coverage now Russia-Ukraine is dominating the news.

This doesn't mean Trump won't suddenly give Putin everything he wants and reach a poor settlement for Ukraine, but I can see him finding value in drawing out the negotiations so they act as a distraction for longer.

At this point, I don't think any one thing is intended to be a distraction for another. It's a deliberate attempt to just rush through a huge list and stop any checks and balances, and confuse people - as well as make people get sick of the noise, so they just switch off entirely.

I hope you are right, but I don’t think you are.
Trump’s voters know that his “make America great again” is mainly lies, he made all sorts of promises for his 2016-2020 term and didn’t deliver on them, and he’s going to do the same now. They don’t care, they are seduced by his promises and that’s better than his opposition. They will vote for him again today, tomorrow, and in three years, given the chance.
We, whoever that might be, need to recognise this and act accordingly. Our leaders haven’t and don’t.

Illegal immigrants aren't allowed vote, and despite what some have said I don't believe significant numbers of them actually managed to do so. So this would only apply to those US citizens who were caught up in the same sweeps, who could legitimately have expected that it wouldn't affect them.

Sadly I don't think they are, or at least not in any meaningful numbers.

There will be a few people who vote for the Leopards Eating People's Faces Party who are shocked that the leopard did, indeed, eat their face. But most Trump supporters don't care.
