Is that Buchs, Switzerland? Seems to remember a plinthed loco in that kind of position when I walked across Liechtenstein. Maybe not enough mountains in the background.

Great. Never been there, but I had a quick look for Dutch "ends of line" guessing that's why the stabling sidings might be there, and got it on the third stab in the dark, after confirming on G maps.

It’s a curious place, worth a quick visit. The platform I’m standing on extends behind me to the platform for connecting trains into Germany. I think the track continues, but there are big buffer stops on both the Dutch and German platforms preventing any through running.

it is a demarcation between the signalling systems, dutch atb & german pzb (i think)
in earlier days traditional systems were in use - meaning throughgoing services

Eemshaven is part of one of the very few rail-ferry-rail (if not the only one ?) international connections in europe
it connects to the eastfrisian island of borkum, to the ommelanden - for us frisians it’s just an interregional connection

I was tending towards Italy just on the basis of the layout & colour of the (illegible) name sign. Beyond that there's not a lot of clue! Usually you can zoom in a bit and find something.
given the "yellow line situation" I didn't want to be concentrating on the camera when either of the trains crossing on the single line arrived!
edit - it felt like a crossing point, but I wouldn't swear that it really was.

I was thinking that maybe it looks a bit too green for Sicily ( maybe not in the South of Italy at all? )
I was reminded of Donnafugata Sicily where the yellow lines on the single island converge and then cross over one another so you have a choice of being over one or both yellow lines. That definitely is a crossing point on a single line so both platforms are sometimes occupied at the same time. (Not electrified and only two platforms so it obviously wasn't your station )

Not in the south at all - and not in the north either...
I've now looked at the station's day-time live departure board and some hours of the day trains do cross there, almost on the hour - but that's just coincidence... nothing like a taktfahrplan there!
and Carsoli is a very good guess, the right voltage and not a million miles away!
