Why only half of 420 gone for repair. Is NL doing the roof repairs or is it going to a major works.
The front end of 156420 57 car is severely corroded and requires the gangway mounting pillars removing and renewing. Not a 5 min depot job. The 52 car was done sometime ago at Newton Heath, but the unit was stopped for 4 months back then.
Sorry meant roof repairs on 170472
Neville Hill have the space and roof access equipment needed to do the repairs. Hull BG don't. A third party will be on site to do this work.

Couldn't they use the 52 coach from 156420 in another unit short term.

In theory they could, but a single non-standard 3-car 156 would be difficult to diagram. It'd be more likely if Northern still had 153s, as the good car could be paired with one of those which would be less problematic (an additional 2-car unit rather than one sole 3-car unit).

There was a post from Dave stating that all the currently laid up 156s at Long Marston (407/907) and the others at Ely are going to be Stripped/recycled soon.
Last time i went to Long Marston i viewed 907, it had been taken back to metal and there was some major corrosion issues, in some key places like gangway doors etc

Don't quote me as I might be remembering wrong but I believe as you say work started on 9/407 but in the end 402? was seen as a better prospect and that one was then saved instead.

You're right, it had had some work done on it and it was down to bare metal in lots of places, butvthe must have given up an it.

156907 (which would have become 407 if Northern had taken it) never got started. It's currently used to shunt other items around Long Marston that have BSI couplers. It will be a donor unit for others, just not sure of the timeline (but probably this year).

Is there a plan to refurb the incoming WMT 323s to Northern spec, or will they stay as they are for now? Can't help but wish for them not to bother, the WMT interior is so much homelier :)

323213 has had all it's seat covers changed to northern ones to allow for spares of the WMT ones for the others.

Not sure if there any long term plans to refurb them properly

Why does the advertising/additional information screens that have been put in to 150s/158s as part of the refurbishment require such a large blue cabinet to stow it in? Is there other equipment stowed there?

The large blue cabinets contain all the electronic bits for the digital train. There's quite a bit in there!
