A few seconds later.........You got it, Binissalem, Mallorca.
One of the six 91 series tram-train units built by Vossloh between 2009 and 2011 for the Manacor-Arta line that didn't happen. Now in use on the Palma-Sa Pobla 'Inca Express', with low-level platform extensions built at each station on the route.

The yellow/green train was indeed from the GySEV/Raaberbahn - a joint Hungarian-Austrian railway company. I used this combination of trains to get from Budapest to Graz. Here's another view of the same station, looking in the opposite direction:

....so, I find that Denmark seems to fit the bill, and not only that but they have a system in which STOP FOR U-SIGNAL is a specific sign. Plus climate / vegetation look plausible for Denmark.

Well we don't seem to be making much progress with this one. How many are actually playing?
We all know what country it is and the train is obviously a 598, of which there are less than 20 sets all based in Seville, and the landscape/vegetation is clearly mediterranean. The station name must be pretty long, judging by the size of the name boards.

my RENFE knowledge is very limited I am afraid.
Given that it's not electrified, on a curve and rural/mountainous and the hint about units based at Sevilla, I'm wondering about somewhere between Utrera and Bobadilla Junction, or between there and Algeciras...

No, so that narrows it down a bit.
It's on a line between two of the places you've mentioned.
There seem to be four per day stopping here in each direction at the moment, but there was no need to book when we were there in September.
