It is because their software truncates any title after 26 characters and adds ''...'' after it, like you'd expect where something is truncated (see 'Last post' column on forum homepage for example). Nothing to do with lack of proofreading. See the Google cache of older news stories for a further example.

Unless their software has an option for them to change the number of characters (and I'd assume there must be a technical reason for having that number selected), the only other option that they can do is posting a newer story!

Do you honestly believe there are hundreds of people up in arms about this, when it's fairly obvious it's just how the software works? It's not like it's a printed leaflet or a deliberate typographical error.

Reminds me of when I worked for an insurance company that had the Pakistani Embassy as a client. The Policyholder was "The Ambassador of the Pakistani Embassy" but the maximum number of characters on an address line was 27 and everything after that didn't get printed, so "tani embassy" never appeared.

Why are people so thin skinned these days? And what does some local councillor think he's going to get out of this?

Matt, I thank you as a moderator, for pointing out the fact that I did not make it clear that it was our local councillor's views were those being quoted and not mine. This is NOT a mistake that I will make in the future.

I posted about it on Twitter, as did a few others, as I think it's quite amusing and figured most of my friends would as well. Northern's twitter people picked it up and are apparently going to change it!
I would be interested to know whether anybody has actually complained about it, or whether most people have found it amusing!

I presume you Councillor friend is either Labour or SDP ? I cannot see any others getting into such a lather over something like this.

It really IS a sad state of affairs that you even HAVE a Councillor who is so obviously driven to such views, frankly I would noty consider him fit to clean the local Council offices, let alone be involved in the direction of Policy for the Council. Ye Gods.

We have now gotten to this absolutely crazy state where for example it is "racist" to say blackboard but NOT whiteboard, where words blackmail, black-balled, blackout are more and more viewed as un-PC.

Apparantly it is OK to say "whiter than white" but not "blacker than black" :roll:

Can anyone tell me why it is fair game for a black comedian to take the p*ss out of white people, but not the other way round ?

I am beginning to feel more and more like a minority every time I return to the UK for everything seems to have moved on in the worst of all ways.

The only Bollin Hey I can find is in Prestbury Ward of Cheshire East Council, staunchly Conservative. Whether Mr Sidorczuk lives there I don't know (I may have missed the point).
