Brighton & Hove / Metrobus Discussion

Have seen a lot of the new liveried Streetdecks running on the Regency routes over the last few days, presumably as a result of the buses changing depots as mentioned in #266. I feel like there's been a lot of strange fleet movements lately, presumably because they're short on buses? Does anyone know what the long term aim is - presumably they're waiting on the new electric ZEBRA buses?

I always liked the continuity of having the 400s on the Coaster, the Geminis on the Regency etc (plus I feel the Regency route branding is really being erroded lately, not helped by the fact they still have two Regency liveries still plus both the new and old B&H livery), so hopefully this is a short term thing because they seem to have so many bus types, liveries, odd workings etc which is strange as B&H always used to be quite consistent with this.
Talking to B&H management, the aim is to put new (diesel) buses on Regency this year.

What about the 6?

The rumour 12 months ago was it was getting the MMC that ended up on the 1X. But then it went very quiet.

Nearly 4000 people travelled on Christmas Day. Which is 38% more than last year.

Be interesting to see where else they look at adding next year.

Isn't it only over recent years that Brighton & Hove have repainted the Regency B9TLs and they still haven't finished repainting all them yet. The fact that this year they are replacing them makes sense - they have been there for a while but why repaint them when only after 1-3 years they getting replaced which sounds a bit short as compared to other buses whose livery lasts around 6 years.(I may be wrong)

Because when they started to paint them, the BSIP money for the Eastbourne and Heathfield extensions wasn't known about and the amount of growth from them, now justifies spending money on new vehicles

Yes, it makes sense that they've put the repaints on hold if the longer-term plan was to replace the fleet running the route. I think having a consistent fleet with a consistent Regency livery will be extremely impactful and help grow the route even more. I will miss getting the black and white graffiti bus though.

I wonder what type of bus will it be, if it's e400mmcs then e400mmcs are just taking over Brighton & Hove and bus spotting will just be boring as it's mainly those and streetdecks, also where are the Regency B9TLs going to go?

The new extensions of the Regency route to Heathfield and Eastbourne, does demand need double decks, could it be single deck replacements on that part? Lack of recent knowledge, having moved away long before these extensions happened.

Yes. Both alone and definitely between Lewes and Brighton.

No inside knowledge, but I wouldn't at all be surprised as Go Ahead on a group level have a contract with Wrightbus that they would be pure diesel Streetdeck

Considering Brighton and Hove have around 80 streetdecks in the fleet over three batches I'm not sure it is a consideration for them.

What if MCV Evosetis came to Brighton as an alternative to the Streetdecks, will they be welcomed?

Metrobus have announced a Brand Refresh! So, it is a new livery, but fortunately not aligned with the recent Brighton & Hove change. The new scheme incorporates the familiar tones of blue and yellow, but also adds in a green stripe (because Hydrogen....).

All the details on the webpage including a picture, plus plenty of the usual marketing spiel. If you can't see the image, then I can tell you it's all about the diagonals and, yes, you too might be thinking it's 1987 all over again!

Not great, not terrible. I think the overall livery is better than the new B&H livery and is a lot more cohesive. The circuitboard bit in the green stripe is a bit too much. The logo isn't very scalable and looks bit of a mess at smaller resolutions. I've not really been blown away by any of the rececnt liveries from Brighton or Metrobus.

I wonder what the single deck variant would look like?

I would've assumed it would be effectively how the current hydrogen buses look? At least to me, the new livery is rather reminiscent of what is currently on the current single decker hydrogen fleet.

Are any of the older fleet going to be repainted into the new metrobus livery?
Also the vector image of a double decker that appears on the article seems to be a streetdeck hydroliner which might mean that they might buy them in the future, but it might just be for a a image of a double decker in the new livery.

we already know, the first 2 Hydroliner single-deckers with this livery have already been in service.

And now out of service, hasn't run since mid-December. Also, Fastway 100 hydrogen buses out of service too from same date.
Assume some build (?) fault that has taken fleet out of service.

yeah on the Metrobus enthusiast group a staff member said there's a build fault with them and suggested all of those already delivered will need remedial work.

Yes it’s true that the 64** series are currently VOR pending the installation of new hydro tank mounts (nothing wrong with the technology, just the design of the frame) they’ll most likely be sent to Bicester to have the work done.

6714 - YX24PDO joins Metrobus (Copthorne) today. Does anyone know if this is a permanent vehicle or just a loan from ADL?

Although not an answer to your question, this was previously on load to GSC (Swindon) as fleet number 3998. It has recently been replaced by some fully branded ones.

I travelled on the 10/20 between Gatwick and Broadbush today and noticed the 60** Hydroliners were out in force even though it was a Sunday; perhaps the need for other Metrobus stock on rail replacement duties (both Gatwick-East Croydon lines closed) was a factor.

On my two journeys I spotted only three diesels on those routes; two of them simply by virtue of when I arrived at the southbound South Terminal stop.

I'm surprised the B9 Enviros haven't come back over yet. Surely they are better temporary vehicles?
Actually for the most part Metrobus has just brought back into service previously withdrawn vehicles (specifically Fastway omnicities, 6626/9 / YN08DFL/U and ex-Southdown dart 6324/LK55ADZ), they also have YX24PDO on loan (either from ADL or Go South Coast) which replaced an ex Crawley vehicle at Copthorne which transferred back.

YX23OTC has now joined the fleet today, I gather similar situation as YX24PDO either a temporary loan or full time move but rushed into service hence no colour scheme

I wonder if the loan vehicles are ahead of what looks to be a bit of a PVR increase in February, especially if the Hydrogen availablity is still hit and miss.
