I checked on the wikipedia page for the Class 350s today and saw that 350110's name (Project 110) isnt mentioned and 350111 (Apollo) and 350115 (Archimedes) have been denamed. Can anyone tell me why this is?
350110's name (Project 110)
were they official names and if so for what purpose?350111 (Apollo) and 350115 (Archimedes) have been denamed.
Yes, they were official names and what do you mean by "what purpose"Project 110 completed about 110 years ago so is meaningless.

Forgot to add this to the previous message, what do you mean by "Project 110 completed about 110 years ago"? Project 110 was when they upgraded the top speed of the Class 350 to 110mph in 2013. (I think 2013)Project 110 completed about 110 years ago so is meaningless.

Sorry - I meant was it for a competition or to commemorate something specific or some kind of project or something else? They seems 2 odd names for WCML commuter units!Yes, they were official names and what do you mean by "what purpose"
i was being silly. i simply meant that P110 is so long ago that it means nothing to most people now, if it ever didForgot to add this to the previous message, what do you mean by "Project 110 completed about 110 years ago"? Not always very reliable though. GWR class 802 wikipedia name table being one example.I checked on the wikipedia page ....
It does not say why the two units were named and nor does it give a reference to anything i can read.Sorry - I meant was it for a competition or to commemorate something specific or some kind of project or something else? They seems 2 odd names for WCML commuter units!

Believe they were chosen by the London & North Western Railway Society and were names carried by LNWR locomotives.Sorry - I meant was it for a competition or to commemorate something specific or some kind of project or something else? They seems 2 odd names for WCML commuter units!

Thanks - now makes senseBelieve they were chosen by the London & North Western Railway Society and were names carried by LNWR locomotives.
I'm not aware that any 350/1s are to be handed back to Angel Trains. It is common to remove decals and names from units when they are due to be handed back to the owning company.
No but also it wouldn't be surprising if the names were lost when refurbished by the subsequent operator.I'm not aware that any 350/1s are to be handed back to Angel Trains.
There isn't planned to be a subsequent operator of the 350/1s for the foreseeable future. The 350/1s are staying as part of London Northwestern Railway (LNR's) electric fleet, alongside the 350/3s, 350/4s and 730/2s (and maybe some of the 350/2s, from what an LNR staff user has said). No but also it wouldn't be surprising if the names were lost when refurbished by the subsequent operator.
Such as project 110 livery from part of 350110 which i assume was removed after going for refurbishment during the LNR programme
No idea why the combined West Mids/LNR operation would need to keep any 350/2s - they're losing 78 x 323 cars and 148 x 350/2 cars but gaining 144 730/0 and 180 730/2 vehicles. That's a capacity increase of nearly 100 vehicles. There isn't planned to be a subsequent operator of the 350/1s for the foreseeable future. That wasnt what i was saying but i can see where you got confused. There isn't planned to be a subsequent operator of the 350/1s for the foreseeable future. Wikipedia is not always going to be reliable. For example, the Class 450 page shows a number of named units. It correctly mentions one that was named during the South West Trains era that was de-named during the South Western Railway (SWR) refurbishment/relivery process, but still lists two that also lost their names during that same process. It does not say why the two units were named and nor does it give a reference to anything i can read.
