One of the two diagrams has been reinstated with a pair of 455s. Ignore the "This service is cancelled." which is a problem RTT has with VSTP cancelled and subsequently VSTP re-instated trains. You can see from the actual timings that it dud run.

Presumably the issue was in fact a shortage of appropriately trained drivers, then?

Quite a few cancellations again today across the network due to staff shortages.

I saw 701035 pass through platform 3 at CLJ about 7 minutes ago. Had the test thingies in the doors.

Looks like it's first time out on testing since 2023 unless someone knows more? Was stabled at Feltham the last I remember.

It’s good to see units previously out of use going through testing and subsequently being used in service. I still remember the good old days of 701043’s reign

It still seems to be the same half dozen, (017, 031, 036, 037, 039, 043) although not all of them every day (043 wasn't used today for example)

Only one of the two evening Shepperton diagrams happened this evening (2H93 etc were run by a single 450) and the evening Windsor diagram starting 2U45 missed its first round trip, before being taken over by the unit that had worked the 2Ux9 Windsor workings (which terminated 2U49 short at Staines and ran back ECS to Waterloo to take up 2U55)

The passenger allocations won't change quickly. Maybe more units will slowly come into 'squadron' service but don't expect variety for a long time.

Again only five out today. The morning Windsor diagram that should start with 2U07 was cancelled. The first Shepperton - Waterloo run (2H08) was also missing, the diagram starting at Waterloo with 2H07

Hardly surprising though, given the evident current staff shortages. Cancellations all over the shop today.

701039 taken out of serviuce at Clapham Junction while working 2U41 about 3pm today, leaving gaps in the Windsor service this evening. To make matters worse, the evening 701 diagram (2U45 etc) doesn't seem to have happened either, so there are only three trains in the circuit instead of five.

That's not reflected on Journeycheck and RTT. There's one train cancelled in the circuit and 701017 and 701031 are on evening Windsor diagrams.

That was what RTT showed when I posted, but some re-restering has taken place.

701031 worked 2H47 Waterloo to Shepperton, but the return working 2H56 was cancelled and it hasn't appeared on RTT since

The two shown on RTT on Windsor diagrams this evening are 701017 and 701036. 036 has been on it all day. 701017 took over the other diagram starting with 2U51, after 2U41 was terminated at Clapham Junction at 1450, unit 701039.

031 was on the 21;33 Windsor train (2U69) this evening which unusually (?) used platform 6 at Vauxhall.
Because it departed platform 6 at Waterloo. It is impossible for a train to get to the Windsor side from there. The next available junction is the one just before queenstown road from the down fast onto the Windsor lines

I didn't catch the number but that must have been the one blocking platform 6 at Clapham when I was there earlier. It still had Windsor on all the displays so there were some confused passengers when the real Windsor train (15:13 I think) arrived on platform 5.

This is slightly off topic, but Tyne and Wear have just put their need Class 555s onto their first passenger diagram.

Anyone want to bet if by the time these 46 units are rolled out, the 701s won’t even be half way to that number, let alone all 90 ;)

Hopefully they'll be more reliable than their Class 777 cousins - can't be any worse!

If Tyne & Wear do a Merseyrail they will rush unreliable Stadler units into service and withdraw serviceable replacements prematurely!
To be fair I don’t think the old units could be any less reliable. But that’s a topic for another thread

Unsure of number, but far less than half the 555s are here.

@DanNCL may know how many are built, here etc
