Class 93 testing...
Some paths for movements to Crewe and for Class 93 mainline tests between Crewe and Carlisle have been created fro next week. Full scheduling looks to be in place for the 25th and 26th but it looks (currently) like additional paths are to be created for the 27th onwards. The main event is the run from Crewe to Carlisle and back late evening/into the early hours.

That unfortunately, is correct. 93001 arrived on Monday 25th having had issues earlier in the day that meant that the pre-planned STP path had to be cancelled. This was replaced at late notice by a VSTP path in which the 93 travelled on diesel throughout from Worksop to Crewe.
It has been tested extensively under diesel power between Worksop and Sheffield previously and there are no issues with the diesel mode. The testing at Crewe was to test the locomotive under the OLE both light engine (initially) and with stock. Sadly things didn't go to plan, obviously issues found whilst on static test in Crewe South Yard - these cannot be rectified whilst away from depot so it was required to get the locomotive back to Worksop with 37901 dragging it in case of further issues en route back.
With the test stock now sat in Crewe South Yard taking up valuable space, the ROG team will be wanting to get the locomotive back to Crewe as soon as feasibly possible once the issues are resolved. So expect a path from Worksop back to Crewe in the not too distant future, likely in the next 7 days. Either that or move the stock back to Castle Donnington if the testing programme will be delayed due to the aforementioned issues.

Confirmed that the coaches for the 93 testing programme will be returning to Castle Donnington for storage tomorrow. So, very unlikely that the 93 will return to Crewe anytime soon it seems with the testing on the WCML now 'on hold' for the foreseeable.

Given that 93001 has been running from 25kV OHLE at Old Dalby (at up to 110mph) and at the Stadler, factory, is there an issue with using the OHLE at Crewe or just a fault on that loco in particular?
Could perhaps be the old chestnut of power supply on the North West Coast. In which case there are other places that could be used. Maybe based at Carlisle and run either North or South over the hills.
If 93002 is substituted it may be a loco related problem.

Running on test at Old Dalby and inside factory limits at the Stadler factory (not even in the UK) are both very different to mainline testing. Though the power supply may be the same, there is a lot more demand on the WCML wires than at Old Dalby or at the Stadler factory. As '92002' has mentioned above, this is a very plausible explanation.
Given the test stock has also returned to Castle Donnington, it does seem unlikely that the issue is limited to 93001. This would suggest that the issue would affect all 93s, not just this one. I'm sure after a bit of tinkering, the locomotive will return to Crewe (in time) however the best option going forward would be to test it light engine first, the loaded test runs can come later once the 'niggles' have been ironed out.
If any news paths emerge, they will be posted on this thread.
Without wishing to be argumentative, what is there to suggest the problem is not just an issue with 93001? Given there is only one on the Network at the moment, there's no indication of that. As for 93002 - I havent been told that it has been accepted or passed for operation under its own power on the network ( I could have been and I havent been informed! ) but if it hasnt, thats why that didnt go to Crewe to replace. There's much discussion within the rail freight industry of the locos, little of it seems to be good, but the vast majority is speculation and rumour.
The one thing for sure is that while a Class 93 is around 20% of an '88' in terms of components and parts, it is a very different machine, and "very complicated". But its also new and teething problems, minor issues and quirks all have to be worked out with everything that is new.

There's also a distinct lack of customers for it. It is hard to escape the view that ROG are dragging their heels with acceptance because they have dropped an almighty clanger in ordering locos with no custoemrs signed up to use them.

I thought there was a report of interest from Freightliner
Having a potential customer saying "We may be interested in using them if you get them built" is not solid enough assurance for very many investors to spend £millions so either there is a customer lined up who is guaranteed to be using them or the alternative is...

According to a reliable source Freightliner have purchased some/most of the 12 serviceable ex-DB class 90s instead.
Think there may have been a plan for the West Coast Sleeping trains . However the contract is with GBRf who are expecting 99s shortlyCue a 93 turned out in the FL 60th anniversary livery.

"Report of interest" is rather a long way from a signed contract, especially for a loco that hasn't turned a wheel on a freight test train. It also doesn't really square with Freightliner having bought two extra Class 90s from DB (90018/040).
