Hi all, new candidate & first time poster here. I’m through the application process & now just waiting for a start date @ Penzance. “I am pleased to inform you that you were successful at your interview for this role
You have therefore been placed in the talent pool for this depot pending information regarding further vacancies at this depot.“

Despite emailing GWR recruitment, I still don’t have an idea how long the process will take for me to get a start date. Has anyone been in this position & able to provide any guidance on how long I’m likely to be in this talent pool?

Along the same lines, is there any material that I can be reading up on in the lead up to starting the training course?

Any guidance would be appreciated :)

Stu.

Firstly, congratulations on getting through and being placed in the talent pool!

Unfortunately, in terms of how long you will be in the talent pool for, it really is anyone’s guess. I know people who have only been in them for a couple of weeks before being offered a position, and others, like myself, who have waited in them for years. It really is a waiting game.

When it comes to reading up before hand, having a look through the rssb rule book can help. Although, some stuff might not make sense fully until put into context during training.

All the info I can find is a few years old and things may have changed?

Not sure where you looked but this was on the first page of "GWR Assessment"

Just had my assessment centre for GWR, passed all paper and computer based assessments and then had the MMI.

I’ve just been invited to an assessment day at Swindon, it seems they are running all the tests and an interview on one day, this seems like a very full day and daunting plus given I applied for Exeter quite a way to travel. The dates are a problem. If I turn down the dates 29 Aug or 2 Sept is it likely I will have to wait a long time for another set of dates? If anyone on here works for GWR in Exeter area would be great if you would be kind enough to make contact please?

For those attending the first stage assessment centre in November/December, do we expect the MMI to happen at the end of the day or at a later date?

It’s mentioned in the practice materials but not the email.
I emailed the recruitment team and they have said it will be on seperate days. First day is just paper and computer tests, if these are passed then you are invited back for a mmi.

I did my video interview just over 4 weeks ago and have not heard a thing since - am I right in thinking I will be notified at some point, even if it’s bad news (rather than just waiting in limbo)?

Has anyone in for Bristol heard anything since submitting the video interview? Seems very quiet my end so far...

Yes, I’ve been invited to attend the assessments in Dec. I’ve already passed them though, so waiting for the MMI now.

Good luck with the MMI!
I had to delay sending my interview back due to being on holiday for 3 weeks. I wonder if that has anything to do with it... I'll keep my fingers crossed. I haven't been rejected yet and it's been 6 weeks or so, hopefully that means it was somewhat ok haha

I'm in the same boat except I applied for Oxford. Just over a month but no rejection yet. Fingers crossed.

Quick question? I have an assessment date booked for trainee driver psychometrics. Is there a specific dress code for this? I don’t believe it involves any kind of interview.

Hi mates, I did my video interview couple months ago and received confirmation of passing that stage. I received a email stating this below;

  • be invited to attend a part or full assessment,
  • be invited to a face-to-face interview with the Driver Management Team
  • your application will be brought to an end if you have failed any of the tests within the last 6 months or you have already had 2 attempts at the process and been unsuccessful.
Can anyone please advise me what to expect and how to prepare for what’s to come? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you so kindly.

I also have an assessment centre booked. I will be wearing a suit to be safe. I'd rather make a good impression just incase!

This is the same stage that I am at for Swansea.

Any info would be great, thanks!

Same as yourself for Swansea
Two tests competed online, then video interview mid week and received the same email Friday. Best of luck to you!

I guess the next steps could be months away, need to stop refreshing the emails as often as I do

I think someone mentioned further back that Swansea (and Penzance) are considered 'dead mans shoes' depots. Basically no one leaves unless they retire (or worse).

As you say it could be a while before you hear anything but it could be sooner. The railway is a strange creature when it comes to recruitment so sit tight and just wait.

Do you get asked the mmi questions at the end of stage 1 or were both the questions and mmi interview itself during stage 2?

Unfortunately, I didn't make it to the assessments last week as I was scheduled to travel to Swindon during the heavy snow and couldn't get there. Thankfully, GWR have been incredibly accomodating and I'm booked back in for February 2025. More time to practice, it'll be worth the wait!
