Good evening all,

Long time lurker, first time poster!

I travelled via Thameslink on 9th September from Burgess Hill to Bristol Temple Meads, changing at Farringdon, connecting to Paddington via the Elizabeth Line. My itinerary was booked as a single ticket, advance purchase fare valid on the following service:

13:25 Burgess Hill to Farringdon (14:26)
15:00 Paddington to Bristol Temple Meads

The 13:25 Thameslink train was terminated early at Gatwick at 13:46 due to a train fault and the next service was the 14:06, which arrived into Farringdon at 14:50. Because my connecting time had reduced from 30 minutes to just 10, I missed my 15:00 from Paddington (by 2 minutes…!). The next service from Paddington was 15:30.

I submitted a delay repay claim to Thameslink on the 9th September which showed as referred. After the 20-working days had elapsed and with no response, I emailed Thameslink to chase and received a response that they were still assessing the claim.

Eventually, today, I received confirmation that my claim was approved however they have manually changed the delay bracket of 30-59 minutes to, 15-29 minutes. My missed connection at Paddington was exactly 30 minutes therefore this should fall into the higher compensation bracket?

It's delay against your originally scheduled arrival not departure.

The 1500 is due in Bristol TM at 1635
The 1530 is due in Bristol TM at 1658

So assuming it arrived at 1658 as booked, you were delayed 23 mins not 30 mins?

What time exactly did your train arrive at BRI?

Do you know what? I didn’t event check my arrival into Bristol Temple Meads.

The 15:30 is quicker as it doesn’t stop at Didcot Parkway… it makes perfect sense now. Thank you for the clarification.

It looks like the 15:30 from Paddington arrived at Bristol Temple Meads 1 minute early, at 16:58. You were therefore 23 minutes late compared to your scheduled arrival time of 16:35, so it would appear that the amount of compensation has been correctly calculated.

Very easily done, especially if you are keyed-in to, not illogically I would say, think of everything being shifted exactly 30 mins - departure and arrival time.
