I’m assuming it’s simply testing for gauge clearance of all IET varieties. Doesn’t mean any diversions over the route are planned at this stage.I'm intrigued what diversions GWR would be likely to do using EWR, as they'd be incredibly roundabout if they were for instance going to Euston via Oxford and a reverse at Milton Keynes Central - you'd be adding on probably nearly two hours. Or is this on behalf of Avanti who might well want to send their 805s on a blockade buster run into Paddington once in a while?

No Chiltern staff have yet been trained on 196sThere are three 196/0s that are now off-lease (or suchlike so maybe just out of use) from WMT. Those would be available to testing/training on the route and they are finally meant for that route.

What would ASLEF have to do with it? More likely RMT would be against any extension of DOO operation. Is ASLEF on board with that or are we going to see Industrial action about this?
