Leeds Bradford Airport Train Station

Typing "Leeds" into National Rail Enquiries website shows Leeds Bradford Airport is a possible option. However, this station doesn't actually exist! Any ideas why its on there? Did it used to exist and was closed, or has it never existed?

There are also codes for ports and seperate airports, not just railways.

It exists because NRE also show some buses on their live departure boards (eg. on Carlisle LDB you will see buses arriving/departing from/toGalashiels). To make these an actual entity, they have to be included on the system so thats why Leeds/Bradford airport appears as a station even though only a bus link exists

At Manchester Airport the signs refer to the 'rail station' which I haven't seen at any other location!

i thought the signs just referred to 'The Station', i didn't think it differentiated between bus+coach, and train, apart from in The Station building, where signs point one way for Bus and Coach, and another for Trains

It will need more correct signage when the Manchester Metrolink finally arrives when there will be:-

1) Heavy rail services
2) Manchester Metrolink services
3) National Express (and other) coach services
4) General bus services.

Dyce airport makes me laugh, it's on the wrong side of the runway, it would be like saying, yeah, you can use Styal station to access EGCC, wrong side of the runway but you can walk, right?

Dyce airport does have rather poor connections, as you have pointed out to the previous person making that posting.

You are correct in using Styal station as a comparison to the situation described by the previous poster. Whilst trains at Styal station are as rare as "hens teeth" these days, it is served by the 200 bus service from Wilmslow rail station to Manchester Airport interchange. In that, local residents here are more fortunate than those at Dyce.

I speak from living in the mathematical shaped area that is has the stations at Styal, Wilmslow, Mobberley and Manchester Airport at the marker points, so I am well aware of local difficulties in this particular area.

There is; it has one service each way on Saturdays and Sundays. I believe it's referred to as a parliamentary service.

Agreed there. It also has a terrible bus service to the Aberdeen. 1bph/2bph, whereas Graveley (a village) has 3bph. None of them go anywhere near Dyce station. This could be solved by diverting the Dyce-Aberdeen bus to call at the station, then terminate at the airport, but it has never happened. Ridiculous!

Aye, if the whole "tram-train" plan for Leeds-Harrogate-York goes ahead, then its very likely. I read that the owners of LBA have set land aside just for a Railway Station...

There was a proposal to reinstate and extend the Rawdon branch from the Leeds end of Greenbottom tunnel. Don't think it ever came to anything other than a theoretical excercise.

Besides that, the Wharfedale Line is at a lower altitude than the Harrogate Line reaches by Horsforth. So, that alongside it making for a far more direct route, Horsforth is clearly the more logical line of approach for the airport.

It's possible that they've changed now since the introduction of the new bus station there and I just haven't noticed! They certainly did say rail station at 1 point cause I thought it was unusual at the time-I remember the announcements also in the lifts saying something like 'Level 7- Access to Terminal 2 and rail station'

In the US trains and buses at airports are usually referred to as ground transportation.

I will have to take a look at Manchester Airport next time I'm there.
