Unlikely that capacity is the issue – the 59 has struggled with passenger numbers, it was closed for an extended period after Covid lockdowns long after other sites reopened, and it runs the smallest buses and least frequent service of any of the P&R routes because that is all the demand that there is. The 5/5A already runs every 15–20 minutes along the A59 all the way to Beckfield Lane, so the 10 already only provides a small part of the service along that corridor. Allowing the 59 to pick up at all stops, and thereby having some passengers transfer from the 10, wouldn't add any extra costs or see any loss of income ... unless the extra stops on the 59 slowed the journey too much and deterred more P&R passengers than it gained from passengers in the suburbs enjoying a more convenient service.

Another example of the ridiculous timings on the 591 today. What is supposed to be the 13:43 departure from Halifax, (but today apparently only ran (or only tracked at least) from Todmorden) is now allowed 49 minutes between Todmorden and Burnley, 14 minutes more than the closest equivalent trip in the old timetable.

Today it left Todmorden on time, waited 8 minutes at Portsmouth and arrived 12 minutes early into Burnley. That's 40% of the total scheduled time just spent sitting around (for the driver and bus at least)

My wife and I had our first go on the new Calder Valley network yesterday, with a lunchtime trip from Todmorden down to Hebden Bridge. No problems in our journeys, apart from the return 591 being a few minutes late and with a standing load - mental note to self, avoid Calder High School finish time next visit!

When we alighted in Hebden Bridge, I was surprised to see only two people waiting to board, which suggested it had been less than the intended 15 minutes since the previous bus had left. Sure enough, we saw several 593s (Halifax - Hebden Bridge) with a 591/2 in very close proximity, so perhaps they are the ones struggling most with delays. I was also happy to see that the 593s were all double-deckers, so some capacity has been retained at that end of the route.

Yeah can see the punctuality severely affected as delays on kirkstall road and Rawdon road transfer onto 27 and from headingley affecting 33.

She is very pleased by this as there is nothing worse than seeing a bus going where you want but not stopping there! Is this true? Thanks

Love the new design however at each stop, the announcement states the destination of the route is at the bus stop it is at.

I don't think I've phrased it right. I understand what you said. I've got an audio with an example of the next stop announcement errors but I can't upload it hear.

So let's just say the the 56 to Moor Grange arrives at Eastgate, when it is at Eastgate, the next Stop announcement says "This is the 56 service to Eastgate", then when it gets to Albion street, it says "This is the 56 service to Albion Street".

This is a major error which needs correcting

First York have announced the yearly boost to Park & Ride services in York:

First Bus is introducing extra buses on the Park and Ride network, which it operates in partnership with City of York Council, to support the York local and visitor economy in the lead up to Christmas.

The additional services will begin from Sunday 10 November and run until Tuesday 24 December

This investment in vehicles and drivers will increase frequency on key routes connecting York’s retail and leisure destinations and the city centre.

Kayleigh Ingham, Commercial Director for First Bus in North & West Yorkshire, said: “The timing of this increase in services also coincides with the beginning of the Christmas Market on 14 November, which we know is a significant festive attraction in York.

“Encouraging more people to use Park and Ride and travel on our zero-emission bus fleet will also help to reduce traffic congestion in York and create cleaner air during a busy period on the roads.”

The service increases are as follows:

1. Service 3 Askham Bar: Two extra buses on Saturday and Sunday, improving frequency from 12 minutes to 9-10 minutes.
2. Service 7 Designer Outlet: One extra bus from Monday to Friday and two extra buses on Saturday and Sunday, improving frequency from 13 minutes to 9-10 minutes.
3. Service 8 Grimston Bar: One extra bus on Saturday and Sunday, improving frequency from 12 minutes to 10 minutes.
4. Service 9 Monk’s Cross: One extra bus will be available on Saturday. While there will be no change in frequency, this additional support is essential to maintaining current service levels, as demand increases in the lead up to Christmas.

After 24 December, all services will revert to their usual schedules.

Michael Howard, Head of Highways and Transport, said; “Christmas is one of York’s busiest times, so these additional buses on the Park and Ride routes are to be welcomed. The 2 already runs every ~10 minutes during the week and every ~8 minutes at weekends, presumably they feel that will be sufficient.
The 7 and 9 are doubly important as not only do they bring Park & Ride customers in to the city but they also take people from the city out to major retail parks.
The 59 gets far less custom than the other routes and will easily cope despite its current schedule being only every 15 minutes and it using smaller buses.

Several routes run less frequently on Saturdays, particularly the 1, 4, 6, U1/U2 and U3 (although the latter is offset by the U4 which is weekends only), so they'll have no problem with the number of vehicles allocated, there's probably half a dozen just in the slack on those routes, and obviously Sundays there will be loads of buses spare.

Been confirmed on First's website to be happening from 10 November:

We're introducing a new stop for our Poppleton Bar Park & Ride service from Sunday 10th November, to improve access to local amenities. The change is a permanent addition to the route, enhancing connectivity for our community beyond the festive season.

A woman has been hit by a bus in Leeds City Centre, suffering injuries as a result.

West Yorkshire Police were called to The Headrow in Leeds City Centre during the afternoon of Friday, November 15 after a woman was hit by the bus outside of Sports Direct. Police have said a woman suffered "minor injuries" as a result of the crash.
Eyewitnesses have reported seeing the woman with police officers. This took place at 2.41pm this afternoon.

As a result of the crash, the bus suffered large crack on its window, in the centre and at the front of the bus. The bus was seen with its smashed window outside of Sports Direct, stopped by a bus stop, with people gathered round.

West Yorkshire Police said: "She is believed to have suffered minor injuries. This was reported at 2.41pm today."

Obviously not been reported yet but due to emergency sewer works the main road (A646) between Todmorden & Hebden Bridge is closed until further notice, looks like all Bus Services are being diverted via Littleborough, Cragg Vale and Mytholmroyd to Hebden Bridge, looking at the diversion route on Metro's website it seems services are terminating at Hebden Bridge and not serving Halifax although not to sure how true this actually is.

This is a further blow to what has been a miserable year for local bus passengers - luckily I rarely have need to use them any more. Odd that First's own website still mentions the 590 as being affected, despite it only running Rochdale to Todmorden these days:

Services 590, 591, 592 are running from Todmorden To Mytholmroyd via Littleborough using the following route:

From Littleborough, using the A58 to the junction with the B6138 Turvin road. Following the B6138 until the junction with A646/ Burnley Road and then as normal to Hebden Bridge.
