George Orwell would have most probably considered such a device when he wrote 1984 as being part of the methodology used to monitor people.
Davina Mcall (ex BB host, not that I watch it) was interviewed a few years ago and did not know that her show was based on a book.
When I first joined the forum and found people kept correcting me, I took it as bad criticism and instantly thought they were just doing it to wind up and annoy me. Now I do understand there point completely.

"It's".![]()
indeed it is!![]()
The thing I have difficulty with is the semi-colon ; Never know when to use it!

To whom it may concern. It's "probably", not "proberbly".
"Pacific" is a big blue wobbly thing that mermaids live in.
I wouldn't be too surprised if most people don't make the connection between the two of them.
Nor would I. When you look at the types that watch it.....
I wouldn't really say that Big Brother is based on 1984. Named after one of the main themes of the book, maybe. If it took a few more ideas from the novel, then I might be inclined to watch it!
I have a feeling that George Orwell would not have been one of them. It appears that many programmes are aimed at the mentally unchallenged and are marketed towards specific groups.

I blame greengrocer's.
The prime example being "could of" rather than the correct "could have".

From the graffiti used in our area, the verbally challenged use "OV" rather than "OF".
Channel F O U R must directly relate to the IQ of both the contestants and the viewers.

The first series of Big Brother seemed more of an experiment to see how the contestants reacted to the situation. It was during the series and the one the following year that the media became fixated with it. As a result, it became a way to get into the newspapers and on to TV. Thus spoiling the concept irrevocably.
