Yes, that makes sense. What a waste of diesel fuel that would have been. I wonder how many litres of diesel that consumed? DO you get any indication?
It's strange to see how many 755's are sitting around in the day. It's an embarrasment of riches. Even a couple of sets stabled at Ipswich despite 3 units being used on an Intercity diagram. Is there still talk of doubling Trowse bridge? Looks like movement on Gypsy lane now too. Goodness me it has taken years to sort that one!
Those 755s will be needed with hourly IPS-PBO and possible 2-hourly NRW-CBG/SSD

Yes they don’t bother changing it around for a single 4 car to do the 2nd run of the day to London & back. It makes sense to keep the same train on running all day.

I’m surprised they have the 3 car unit in the middle instead of leading on the London end. Instead both 4s are at front & rear. There must be a short distance with the middle & front pant, a bit unusual to see that happen.

The formation was actually 3 + 4 + 4. Not 4 + 3 + 4...

Ah thanks. I think that was yesterday unless these odd glitches occur. Normally it’s always 4x4x3 & sometimes 3x3x4 if a 745 is swapped off, 335 was placed middle.
Yes 13 years now for Gypsy. No more news with Trowse Bridge and doubt there will be for many years now. Yes we do get an indication of diesel litres used on passenger workings but it’s not something I pay much attention to.

Apart from the Thunderbird 755 (not always enough units for that) there’s usually one ready for swapping another unit over later and for fuelling at Colchester.
normally to couple up the 11 coaches on Monday is at royal dock. Yeah bit of a waste not getting enough of the diesel operation 6 days a week on ic, apart from a rare pant fault that’s when it makes its use of the bi mode.

Somehow, stratford p10a is in full use again due to a track defect linking on to p10.

How come? Class 745s must be shunting on Electric why not for Class 755s?
that’s because 745s are fully emu no backup engines in the middle, unlike the 801s have a backup engine for emergency use. While using a triple traction ecs off a ic run, it will run electric back from London, though into crown point or Ipswich sidings for short shunts, it runs on diesel only for safety reasons.

745107 reportedly has now tables fitted on the front window bay coach (1)

Did Norwich 90 today in roughly 92 mins, 15 secs & Ipswich in 51.5. Didn’t have to sit at Ipswich for 4.5 mins pathing, this can be achieved slightly better. Supposed to run 107 with the new tables fitted but got altered around to 006.

https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:C34669/2024-08-24/detailed#allox_id=0 745101 1P63, 19:00 to Liverpool Street broke down at stowmarket due to faulty set of doors not closing properly.

Door issues with the 745/755 fleet are fairly rare. The last time I had to isolate a set in traffic was during lockdown at Manningtree. It seems the crew with help from fleet where unable to overcome the problem on this occasion. Will be interesting to find out the cause.

Possibly there might have been an obstruction causing the doors to not shut or the platform step not closing in place with the mechanism.

As it’s a bank holiday Monday, there is an extra Norwich in 92 running today just like a regular Saturday timetable. Worked with 105 with tables fitted in front coach 1.

Good to see  Must be a modified Saturday timetable in play. The normal 08:57(SO) ex-Norwich was retimed to 09:00 and with Diss/Ipswich only calls completed the journey on time in 1h33.

Got further delayed after Ipswich to witham due to a freight from harwich international hauling to gas factory upfront.

They do modifications and engine replacement as not room at Crown Point. There was a plan to build a lathe there or at Harwich but nothing has come of it yet.
And now it has. Their entire fleet will be able to go there

From the photo this does not appear to be an under-floor wheel lathe - see the wheelset up on top, so does this mean that the wheel sets will have to be removed from their bogies before attention ? If so, this is a bit of an old-fashioned and time consuming way of doing it !

It hasn't been built so this is an old photo of somewhere else

I was on 755411 on 2W25 just now in the front coach and the door on the right didn't close in 15 seconds like it usually does and just stayed open the entire time until the driver closed it. The doors only opened on the right at Cambridge and Dullingham so I only saw it there. It was only the front coach as I heard beeps from further back of it closing before the driver closed it. I don't know if the left was like that too

It does seem like 745/1s are the most unreliable in the fleet too

Did the driver ‘force’ the doors? I do it sometimes if a disabled person is waiting to board or if I know one is leaving.

What's that? Also do you know what happened to 755420 because I used to be on it all the time but now it seems like it hasn't been out for weeks as I search for it semi regularly on rtt

No sorry I don’t but will try to ask tomorrow as I’m on Crown Point for a bit. It’s the white light at ankle level in the doorway. Really annoys me seeing people keep pressing the door open button when trying to keep the doors open during station dwell times when all they need to do is block the light.
