Pretty much, Cressington is the main sticking point.
It won't be for long and when sorted as you say on an 8 car, selective door opening will mean the doors will only open on one of the units.
So how are they going to stop Cressington bound passengers joining the wrong unit? Or is there a gangway between them?

Only for emergency use.

It'll no doubt work in exactly the same way that it does on West Midlands Trains at stations such as Rugeley Trent Valley, Atherstone and Liverpool South Parkway where regular announcements are made for passengers to ensure they are in the front 4 coaches for these stations due to a short platform.

Admittedly not being able to move between the units isn't ideal, but I would expect the bulk of passengers for Cressington are regulars, so they'll soon get used to it.

Does anyone know if the same issue will arise at Green Lane on the Wirral Line?

Green lane will only have the front set of doors on the front unit and the rearmost set of doors on the back unit not opening.

Yup, announcements already exist for the "the front and rear doors will not open at this station" and "the doors in the rear 4 cars will not open at this station"

@NeoJade May I ask where did you find these files, and do you have them for all the announcements?

Nevermind, all it took was a quick google search. I was never able to find the 507/8 ones so I assume i wouldn't have been able to find these too.

If anyone else is interested here is the download link : https://www.mediafire.com/file/uclwswrmga0bn4d/OneDrive_2023-03-07.zip/file

I believe these two workings may have been 8 car 777 workings (ECS), presumably for driver training of 8 cars on the Wirral Chester line- could anyone confirm please?

A similar run last Sunday to Chester and back, I assume the same (8 car).

Testing units as 8 cars, not for driver training

The 777 which failed at Ellesmere Port this morning and is currently coupled to another 777 to take it back to Kirkdale depot is now causing congestion on the Northern line at Liverpool Central. It is currently blocking platform 1, since the faulty unit needs to lead out of central to make its way back to Kirkdale depot. All passenger services at the moment only have access to plarform 2 leading to delays. The Southport - Liverpool Central addditional services are starting and terminating at Sandhills to ease the congestion.
Unsure on the 777 unit which failed?

Looks as though the plan is to form a 12 car 777 to enable the failed unit (777011) to shift out of central. 2G59 (from Ormskirk) has terminated at Moorfields and looks to be moving forward to couple with the 8 car (1Z99). An interesting sight for those around in the area as it passes Moorfields and Sandhills back to Kirkdale depot if the coupling works to shift the unit.

011 and 034, though not sure which way around they are. 1Z99 now on its way to Central so assuming they’ll decouple 011 and 034 and drag them back to Kirkdale.

Seems the rescue failed. 5Y06 (presumably still the 8-car 777011 and 777034) are now in the reverse siding at Central. Hopefully they devise a plan to get them moved before the morning or it'll be an unpleasant one.

Anybody got any idea of the fault? I don't recall a 777 ever having completely failed before. I'm sure it has happened on he Kirkby line but I don't pay attention to that being from Wirral.

There have been a few biggies. I recall one being discussed a while ago failing between Hunts Cross and South Parkway which caused 6+hours worth of disruption to both Merseyrail and the Warrington Central lines.

Since then there was another which failed under the Mersey causing hours of havoc. Not sure of any others.

From what I've heard via mrail socials and realtimetrains, it had a complete loss of traction at ELP, with the first rescue attempt failing.
Has happened a bunch here on the Northern lines, and obviously our gracious /1s like putting their shoes up/down at inconvenient times.
I'd presume the plan now is to wait until end of service since we are almost there, then either get it towed out by a loco or put another 777 on the front and drag it.

An attempt was made overnight to move the units from the reversing siding at Liverpool Central. It seems this was not successful resulting in the siding being out of action today at Liverpool Central. This will create congestion at Liverpool Central with Ormskirk services starting and terminating using platform 1 at Central, while all other moves solely using platform 2. I would expect the Headbolt Lane services will soon be starting and terminating at Sandhills to ease congestion, with the 15 min frequency now starting across the Northern Line.

Watching the maps it seems to be OK so far. 2-3 minute delays being picked up around the Central area but the turn times at Hall Road, Ormskirk and Headbolt should allow those to be wiped out for the return runs.

Pretty much all services are still 3-5 mins delayed, and a couple units have been terminated short and ran empty to ease congestion.
Some HBL services have used plat 1 at LVC but a majority have went to 2.

One would assume the plan now is to get some form of shunter put together (loco or 777) and to drag the unit by all means necessary to KKD tonight as the network simply cannot handle the strain this is putting it under, especially with the football season starting and schools getting back soon

What is the failure rate of the /1's now? I'm considering getting Northern Rail to HBL then HBL into LVC when I go to the office in Liverpool. Currently I drive to Kirkby to get on Merseyrail as I'm concerned of the /1's failing on battery power.

They are on battery from FAZ, no real difference between HBL and KIR.

Anyone know whether 777015 has an issue preventing it from running in passenger service? Currently stabled at Southport and was last week.

I think so. All the PIS cupboards on the inside have been opened and totally powered down for almost a week now.

The information displays in the 777s still seem to have trouble with short workings due to engineering work.

My train this morning correctly displayed the destination as Hall Road but the internal displays showed arrival time at every station as 11:00 (it was about 8:30 I was on board). On my way home there were no audio or text announcements until on the approach to Brunswick which was announced as Hightown, then St Michaels as Hall Road and so on.

And in the other direction, displaying Formby, but leaving Southport announced every station as Liverpool South Parkway, with all stations to Formby in reverse order, except the ones actually called at.

That's because the pis externally has short destinations programmed in to be displayed but the actual headcode won't be set up to announce or display internally.

Seems a bit of a poor design. The CAF 197s download the days headcode data every morning which contains all information for the each journey (calling pattern, times etc). So when a headcode is entered it is correct for that days plan. It can also be remotely automatically altered by control when there is a chance of circumstance eg terminating short, change of stopping pattern the train updates to reflect this by itself.
